NMO slip on "trunk" mount... cleaner, cheaper, easier to install...

I mean, nice work (OP) but seems like more work and expense than needed...

IMG_0246.jpg Larsen NMO thru the roof. Works like it's suppose to. Unscrews when you want it off for those low clearance areas. Just drill the hole and do it right.

Google "NMO trunk lip mount", you'll get lots of choices. That is a black stainless Tram brand, $20 on ebay.

I have no other current pics but when you Google it you'll see how it mounts on the bottom.

Yes, it fits brilliantly on the 2017 (the picture I linked is my old 4R).

    Hey, anything for you.

    Here's the link.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/371492360030

I use one of two antennas, either a 18" 1/4 wave unity antenna (as pictured), which is $12... or a 50" 3 db gain 5/8 wave base loaded antenna (which is not pictured, so use your imagination and /or your Google).

Here's the short antenna on the NMO mount in the rain.

    You. Are. Welcome!

Good! low profile mount. You use the same lip mount on the other side for your CB antenna ?

I'm really not liking my ditch light bracket set up. I basically have the same set up as the OP. When you attach it does it mar the paint/finish much? I am assuming it's the same type minimal soldering connection at the base.

    Thanks for the time.

Just for clarification...which side of the truck is your antenna wire on, driver or passenger? It looks like the standard driver side hole based on the photos that everyone uses or one on the passenger side?

I'm planning on doing A-pillar lights, plus a CB radio and I'd like to separate my power and antenna wires to reduce electrical noise. I haven't poked around in the 3G bay as far as access points and on my 2G, my antenna was out back.

I put all my audio/stereo wiring down the drivers side and the power, control and coax for my UHF/VHF down the other. I have had no problems.

I put the antenna on the drivers side just for preference. I ran the coax and power through the boot on the passenger side through a loom and attached to the loom that goes along the the top of the fire wall. It's fairly clean, IMHO.

That's good to know. I need to decide if I want to go the Blue Sea fuse panel on this one or if I will have enough electronics to warrant it. I don't want to introduce noise if I don't have to. I've got the Cobra 75, and I've got a panel mount for the center console so it will look borderline OEM when I'm done, hopefully.

I did on the 4r. On this I went with a magnet mount because I just don't use the CB a lot. I'll get SWR set up and then mark the spot, and remove it until I go off road, on a trip, etc. I debated not even perm mounting the CB but my OCD wouldn't allow for that.

There is no marring. The only damage would be two indentations on the bottom from the Allen set screws. The screws pierce the paint slightly and this is where ground is obtained.

This is an old pic, and it shows an add on ground wire coming off one bolt, which is an option. I did not do this on the current setup, I just used the two existing Allen bolts instead of replacing one with a longer hex head bolt and grounding wire.

One big fake internet bro hug for you...Thanks for the time!

Plus anyone that is running a ground probably knows what he is doing.

Why did I not do this the first time... Hey, I have a couple ditch light brackets for sale. Plus that eBay guy is just down the road from me.

I had to take some other pictures today so I took some specific shots of the mount, the underside, and both antennas.

I run the shorter antenna all the time because it is low profile and works fine around town. If I am going on a trip or doing trail work where a little better "oompf" might come in handy, I install the longer, base loaded, gain antenna. Any other NMO antenna, including the one the OP posted, will attach to this mount.

The labeling (white "Tram") on the mount comes right off with brake cleaner, if it bothers you.

The base comes with 18' of coax with a PL259 installed, and the link I posted above currently also includes a free promo rain cap to cover the mount when an antenna is not being used. A good deal for under $20 shipped. Incidentally, the PL259 will fit through the grommet in the firewall, a lot of guys cut it off and then re-solder it, but if you splooge some Windex on it to lube it up, it'll slip right through as-is.

@cheuer, sorry for the thread hijack... you did some good work. I just wanted to present another NMO mount option that a lot of people haven't considered because it's marketed for the trunk.
