That's seriously not a thing unless you load the bikes improperly. I've seen plenty of people F up their bikes on wheel mounted racks, too (from loading improperly).

Referencing the post you deleted, if your carbon fork can't handle the stresses of a fork mount, please stop riding it immediately, your life is in danger.

If either of these were legitimate issues I doubt tailgate pads would be the #1 method of carrying bikes for truck owners. It takes a lot more than simply leaning another bike up on a rotor for it to bend. Pedal bite, well, I ride somewhat hard so more damage is to be had enjoying the trail.

Summary: OP spends a ton of money on a bike rack and is proud of it. Then rationalizes the decision by bashing the the equally legitimate but less expensive other options presented in the thread.

Bingo... These dudes must not be firing on all cylinders and presumably have never rolled into Whistler and seen the hundreds of trucks with DH bikes on tailgate pads. It must be a total fluke that I can sling my bike over the tailgate, drive the 500 mile round trip up there, hit the 40 footers on A-Line for a week straight, and return with a fully intact bike. Or ride jumps on my dj bike and lay it in the bed of the truck without it disintegrating. Weird how most people put more stress on their bikes by riding them than transporting them....

There is a difference between scratching a bike and ruining a bike.

not sure what post you're referring

if fork mount works for you great, fork mount rack is probably the only other viable option. This thread is for hitch receiver as I use a camper shell for supplies and caping

    lol..

I wish I lived close to a downhill park. All of my local trails would fall into the XC class.

The one where you asked if I had downs syndrome. Also the one where I almost nailed the "report" button but figured you would be smart enough to delete it. Which you did.

Lol, how does a bike rack thread spiral?

I have a cheapo Sports Authority (Rest in Peace) mountain bike. Shimano gears if that makes a difference, I’m happy with it.

See post #46. Also @jbrandt and myself were asked if we had downs syndrome by the OP. But OP was smart and deleted the evidence.

    Edit: Annnnnnddddd hes banned

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
I currently have a Yakima Stickup(hitch mount). Picked it up on CL for $125, many years ago. Has carried our two mountain bikes around Spain and then across the US many, many miles with no problems. I've had Yakima racks in different configurations since the mid 80's. Carried bikes and watercraft on hitches and roofs with no complications. Will stick with Yakima.

    - ICON UCAs, BP51/Kings, SCS wheels, 285s, Leer 100XR canopy. Greenlane aluminum winch bumper, Smittybilt X20 winch. Trying Falken AT3w now, Really like BF KO2s.
The 1up is cool no doubt, a lot of riders here in Kamloops go with the tailgate pad. Having a canopy on I use a Yakima rack or Swagman on the back depending on how many bikes I am hauling.

I've mounted my road bikes and mountain bikes for years on frame and fork mounts. Traveled all over racing and never had an issue. My road bike is full carbon and my mountain bike is alum

I have a yakima hitch rack which holds by the frame and a fork mount.

Never an issue in 25 ys. In fact I was watching the tour in France and most teams fork mount their bikes.

My fork mount was 25.00 and hitch rack was 200.00

But, the 600 alum thing is nice....you just dont need to believe all this fear mongering and bad advice.
