    Greetings TW members,
I am usually just a "lurker" in forums like this - simply because I feel that I learn 100 times more than I would be able to share. All the same, I may be able to share something useful in the future.

I am a 60 yo Tacoma lover from NE PA on my 2nd Tacoma (2nd Gen) a 2005 TRD Off Road 2WD Pre-Runner Access Cab 4.0 M/T that I built on Toyota website in fall of 2004 and waited what seemed like a lifetime to receive it around Christmas 2004. I have kept nearly that level of excitement about this truck ever since! Oh and it has 69000 miles on it :) (almost new).

I rediscovered this website a few days ago and have probably spent a dozen hrs or so already checking out 3rd Gen Tacomas.

I DO love my old truck - But I am in a situation where I can buy a new truck and am giving it a lot of thought. Until about a year ago, I had ZERO issues with her (my truck) and had always liked the idea of driving something new and dependable.

All of a sudden I had a flat tire - which of course isn't the end of the world and somehow the power steering pulley wheel broke off causing some damage - AND my truck wouldn't pass inspection because of extensive rust damage to the frame. So, all these problems have been corrected and truck is "like new" again but it made me realize that I can't count on it like I could a NEW vehicle. I have a relatively long commute and an employer who doesn't appreciate/tolerate too much when I am unable to get to work -grin
FYI the frame problem was of course a recall item and I waited way toooo long to take care of it... I took her to the dealership last July and Toyota authorized a NEW frame. Long story, but I now have a brand new frame, leaf springs, etc at a cost to Toyota of over $11k on my 2005.

Thanks to all of you out there for sharing your time, opinions, experiences and advice.

    Welcome Greg.
If it eases your mind and you can afford it I say go test drive a new truck and see if you like it.
Or search for a low mileage 2nd gen.
