I get 20+ mpg around town and 25 on the road. It's a street truck with very little off road driving but I did add a class 3 hitch for my 16' Carolina Skiff and the Auto LSD has proven its worth a couple of times on slippery boat ramps. I recently upgraded the tires to Uniroyal 235-70 R 15s from the stock 215s and there is a definite improvement in handling and control. Look better in the wheel wells, too. My speedometer and GPS now agree with the larger tires.

    Mines a keeper.

Do I like my 5-lugger, you bet. It is amazing on fuel, rides great, has a nice(not frivilous) interior, and drives great even with the stock tires and wheels. When the stock Destination LE's need replacement, like others I will at least get tires that correct the 8% optimistic speedo, and hopefully will gain some stability and composure on the open road. If the finances permit maybe a set of 16" wheels and tires. Will cost about a grand for nice wheels and decent tires.

When I used the truck this fall for hauling me, luggage, GF, and 600 lbs of motorcycle and accessories, it really impressed. Hardly a drop in MPG's and had no problems pulling large hills even with the 1200 lb. load.

As others have mentioned the most disappointing aspect of the truck is the wind and road noise that wears at your nerves on long trips.

I rate my truck 4.5 out of 5 stars.

    Hey,

The tires i have now are about 2" bigger but they are on the stock rims so there not any wider. I may get wider rims way way down the line which would make them stick out a little bit but i think they will look fine. Regearing is what i did to my truck, on the rear axle theres a 'third member' in the middle. the stock 5 lug had 3.31 when i upgraded the tires my truck got soooo slow so instead of putting all these mods in to bring in back to stock i had a mechanic regear it to 3.73. He took the third member outa 6 lug prerunner non e-locker and he put it mine. Works mint, quicker than stock and brought my mpgs right back up to where they should be. It is a little louder than the stock but i just turn my radio up louder :p. I would recommend this if you want larger tires.

yeah these little 5 luggers are quick little bastards. When my LE's got replaced i noticed a huge improvement with handling too. Today was the first test in New England with the snow and crap my AT's kicked ass i didnt feel like i was going to die lol tore thru snow like a champ, i mean i wasnt going fast or anything but i was going like 50 - 55 before i would be like 30-35 those old LE's had no traction in the snow it was a disastor lol

I got my truck about a year and a half ago. It serves my needs quite nicely...good gas mileage, but I definitely regretted the buy and wish I would have gotten the prerunner or 4x4, just looks way better in my opinion, plus I moved back up north and 4x4 is a must here, just didn't anticipate that when buying the truck.

I considered doing something about the crappy rims and tires, and possibly a lift, but for that expense I figured it'd be better to wait and trade it in. The truck runs fine and all that, but like I've read a lot around here, it's better to wait and get the bigger truck, you'll definitely be happier.

Strictly for the snow tires, $99 is accurate, but by the time you buy a nice set of summer wheels with decent rubber, set #1, then mount the snow tires on the nasty stock rims, set #2. $1000 isn't out in left field. Or you can paid the tire shop every season for a dismount/remount of the tires.

Cappy cap, how much did it set you back to regear? I have a 6 lug PR 4x2 and while the get up & go of the 4.1 rear is fun I do wish for a bit better mpgs at 75 on the expressway.

I like mine so far, it does what I want it to do without a problem, only 2700 miles in it tough so I can't make a solid opinion yet, but so far I like it. Cool thing about it is that there are not that common down here, there are alot of Tacomas here and most of them are 4 doors short bed.

I would've preferred a 4WD truck however I was limited to what the dealer had on hand that was in my price range. Since there weren't any standard cab 4cyl 4WD Tacomas around when I was shopping, I went for the base model. I'm happy with it, though it lacks some features that I really think should be standard on any car.
