How is the quality? I'm leery of it.

harbor freight is pretty cheap stuff... it definitely ain't high end, but they are great to just kinda throw around...

for our purposes, it works as we lend our jacks out to anybody who is in need out in the desert... personally, if i was runnin with a high end jack, it would be hard for me to be willing to lend out or help someone stuck on the trail...

i always tell folks to go with what feels comfortable to them... if you aren't feelin this jack and want to go with a bigger brand, then go for it... that way, you won't have to deal with buyer's remorse later, ya know?

    That sounds somewhat reasonable.

However, I was off work today and took a drive to HF to have a look at one in person. I was not impressed. So I came up with a idea, I programmed my GPS to find near by pawn shops. After my third visit I found a nice jack that would not lift, but being a Craftsman I figured I could buy a repair kit and get it for a hellva deal. Boy was I mistaken. According to Sears they will not sell you a kit to rebuild the seals. Something about getting hurt after a rebuild..... GODDAMN LAWYERS. They want to sell you a whole new mechanism for it, well its a $120 jack and the part was 90 bucks. Fuck that. So I am back to square one.

Well I did some surfing and made a few calls. I found this place on the web that sells repair parts for several jacks. So I may go with one of these brands listed on their site. I also found out that Torin jacks that are sold on Northern Tools site as well as Wally world have spare parts available, but not at the above site. I am for sure going to get one that can be easily repaired for a few bucks. More research to do.

Ive had this jack for 8 years now! Got it new from Harbor Freight with a coupon for 60 bucks back in the day because it fit under my lowered VW GTI back then with out driving up on 2x4's.

I still use this thing everytime i work on the truck (with 2x4s) or any of the other cars in the family. Great jack. Would buy it again anyday.

Yeah I had a harbor freight jack for about 4 years, till one day it just decided not to hold up anymore after I was half way lifting my car off the ground. It lost all pressure and that was it. Bought a nice jack after that, never had another issue and its over 10 years old.

Harbor freight is throw away tools.

oh in that case, yah, get the steel one for cheaper... the whole point to the alloy jacks is something that can be bolted into your truck bed and for quick use when out in the dirt....

i dunno... for the steel one for your garage, maybe look for a Craftsman or shop your local Sears... since Sears is starting to close stores, you might see some good deals coming up over there...
