so i did a thing last night.....

    IMG_20171209_193621087_HDR.jpg

Was calibrating my torque wrenches.... broke @ ~130ftlbs with all of a half inch extension clamped vertical. If my crude math mind is correct it broke at around 3120lbs of spreading force..... I cant blame it for giving up. Guess ill be grabbing another vice today. NEVER had an issue in the past with their vises, just me being dumb and not realizing how much spreading force i was applying.

I love the ability to turn the vise head. Just yesterday I used both sides of the vice.

Has anybody tried the plastic welder from HF? I'm thinking about the 60+$ one with the blower motor. Twenty some years ago,I laid down my 83' gold wing, and busted up a bunch of plastic. I took it to a backyard mechanic that had a shingle out in his front yard that said plastic welding. He put everything back together, and nothing broke in the 6 years after. I think he used a soldering iron and bic pen shells.
Last week I hit a coyote and cracked my front bumper, and I'm think if he can do that with a soldering iron and old pens ,maybe I could stick this back together.

Well i went to HF and the 5in standard vise had a slightly different hole pattern, the 6in standard vise was all of 5 bucks cheaper so i just got the same 5in multi vise again, no biggie, 54 bucks out the door with the 25% off coupon.

That vise is a shadow of what it was 10 years ago, here is mine of that vintage, that has been beaten to within an inch of its life more than once:

Also 90 days warranty on a vise is 220% B.S.--90 years would be more in keeping with what I would expect from a vise...

Have one. It's great. It payed for itself by fixing a kayak. It takes a little practice, but not too hard to get It down.

Did you get the under 50$ one or the over 50$ welder?

Mine is at least 5 yrs old, it's a hot air model similar to what is now more than $50. If you have any regular welding experience, you'll figure it out quick. You just have to manage burn through If you're patching thin stuff. I practiced on my plastic garbage cans first. They come with several different types of plastic filler material. If you use the wrong kind, you'll know, because It won't adhere to your work piece.

Dont bother, not worth the savings over Duracell or the like.

Even the free AAs have been sitting in my junk droor for a few months as I used them for a remote and they ran out in about 2 weeks.
