I just returned my HF flux core welder that I bought at the Memorial Day sale (never opened it up)...I'm taking a welding class this summer and thought I'd buy that kit to get my hands dirty before the class, but after reading more about it online after I made the purchase I was convinced to return it. Seems like I'm better off waiting until I take my class and then deciding what kind of quality welding setup I want to spend money on.

Anyone have experience with the Chicago Electric Impact wrench (not cordless)?

I know it's got 1/4 the torque that any other respectable impact wrench has, but I really haven't needed one in the past and don't want to spend a ton on one just yet. But I am doing my carrier bearing soon and it's recommended to use an impact to remove the stake nut which is torqued to about 140 ft/lbs. Will the HF impact be up to the task you think?

140 ft/lbs is usually something I could do with a breaker or cheater bar but since this is on the drive shaft that's going to be a little tricky, would rather use an impact

I don't buy alot of Harbor Freight stuff but I do own one of these. Works pretty well and alot easier to handle than my 4 1/2" angle grinder. Will overheat and trip the circuit breaker in it if worked hard but resets after a few minutes of cool down. For the money, a decent light duty use tool.

This is pretty much spot on. I have one that I used to prep for a CMC. You will still need to clean it up with an angle grinder but the cut-off angle with this is helpful.

I was surprised how well it worked for the money, you got it for a great price.

6pt for impacts so that it doesn’t strip the bolt.

6 point is generally better to reduce the chance of rounding off the nut/bolt.

Thought so but see alot sets come in 12pt...so u have to buy extra 6pt. Read a good quality 12pt is just as good as 6pt. Then u got those that only swears by 6pt.

I’m one of those, I won’t buy 12 point 1/2” drive sockets for anything.

Get both, both have their place. Sometimes a thin wall 12 point is the only socket that will fit in that impossible spot.

That’s what I was going to say.

If you can afford only one set, get 6 point.

    Otherwise, get both.
