Hmm. I hadn't had any issues with exchanges in the past. Only thing I had experience before was when they couldn't decide if exchanging or rebuilding ratchets was the route they wanted to go. 1/4" ratchets don't like me. The pawls seem to start slipping after only a couple uses.
I there were flea markets near me, I would still hunt for broken tools though.

So, @jowybyo, I have to ask. What is your insider knowledge source for the dealings of sears and b&d?

I'm early in my tool buying. If one was trying to stick with one brand and get well made long lasting tools for occasional use what would you get?

I am in a similar boat, I have some Tekton stuff that seems decent but it hasn't been tested much yet.

Tekton has been good for me. I have a bunch of their sockets and a few other tools. Customer service is pretty good too. A punch i had broke and i emailed them and within a day had a new one on its way to me.

Sunex makes good sockets and I have a set of their wrenches that I like. Their sockets are of nicer quality compared to Tekton. Warrenty is supposedly great too but I havent used it.

Gear Wrench makes nice stuff too. No clue on warrenty though. They do some rebranded stuff so worth looking into. But i have ratcheting wrenches and some other tools (gear puller and slide hammer for instance) and find them to be nice.

For pliers....Knipex if you can. Absolutely love mine and they are awesome. Bit expensive though. I have a set of the harbor freight ones i use as my beater pliers and then knipex as the nicer ones.

IMO, I wouldnt be to brand specific. Just buy whoever has a decent product with good reviews at the lowest price.

Nice looking tools, but a lot of wasted storage space on that socket set.
