Once when I was up on Carr Canyon Road in my new 4-Runner I was happy I had the Automatic with terrain select on a very steep switchback, nothing but 2,000' drop on the outside of the curb. Yet my MT FJ took those same switchbacks with no issues. I would be very tempted to go sport to get that MT, then do some mods to bring it close to the OR model.

Sit down with a list of what you want and have the dealership look up national dealer inventory and filter out what you want in their computer system. In just a few seconds they can show you what's available nationwide that fits your wants and you can have them ship the closest one to your dealership where you can look it over and sign the paperwork. It's not the same as special ordering before a vehicle is built, it's just searching through Toyota inventory and having an unsold vehicle shipped your way.

You already got a lemon and had to dump it so don't let the next one be a compromise you might regret later.

Guess I never took the seating design into consideration. Still hard to imagine a full sized adult in the back on one.

OP my advice is test drive them and find out for yourself what will do. Obviously inventory is scarce, but don’t be afraid to check other dealers in your area. Seems like you’re a huge impulse buyer. And coming here asking for opinions when you have already owned one means you still are on the fence. So just take the time to think rationally about what your needs and ways are, and what trust will be the best fit for you.

I would do it- who knows how long the MT will be available, but you are most likely getting one of the last US built Tacoma’s - if that matters to you.

(don’t mean to thread jack, this is a very touchy subject here on TW)

Good points. I also found with the backseats folded down int he Dbl Cab, it was pretty high to help her get up on the folded seat whereas I think an access floor would be easier. I don't use that '59 much for hauling but it makes a hell of a work bench with the tailgate and side gate folded down. It will hold a full sheet of plywood or drywall ... but in a new house now those days are mostly over. I'm thinking I could camp in that 6' bed easier than I could in the 5' bed ... I don't do much parallel parking around here as I try to stay out of the cities as much as possible. I don't see much chance of needing someone in the backseat based on the past two decades. LOL Loners have their advantages. :) I like the dog bed idea in the access cab. Being 90 pounds with bad old hips it's quite a job to lift her helping her in back of the FJ ... and no ... she will not do ramps ... not a chance.

I was starting to doubt that there would be one in the 4th Gen since the hybrid was coming. But, there was an article that noted it would be there. It talked about it being lightened and somehow more efficient? Hopefully, that doesn't mean 3.909 gears.

I wanted to see if the @carmarker1 person made any comment there, but they're posts have been deleted.

Yes I understand. I have seen some of those threads about factory location. I was unaware the Sport was built in the US, thanks for the info.

Get the manual. You wont regret it.

It drives completely different than the AT.

Great advice !!! How did you know I was a huge impulse buyer? LOL .... although I have some excuses for selling the other two tacos and I'm sticking with them. LOL Inventory is really scarce. Luckily besides the local dealer I have two Toyota dealers 65 miles away in Tucson. Yes, definitely on the fence and actually feeling a little pressured in my own mind about making a decision fast because they are not lasting long on the lot with no idea when their next one is coming in.

The Sport is only gears and lockers away from being better than the OR.

If you buy the AT, the sport has the 8” diff vs the OR with 8.75”

AC and MT have only been from Texas however the brand new factory in Mexico has started spitting out a few.

I can’t discuss my secrets. Nor the bet we made to see how long you will keep this Taco, before you trade it in for you’re next vehicle. Word is they are already taking bets on what the next vehicle will be too

Even though it is really tempting, I would stay away for the at least the first MY. This is an entirely new platform that will be the basis for the next gen Ranger. 10yrs ago, Ford was doing all the right stuff. They seemed to fall off since. Still better than GM or FCA.

    7spd FTW!

Yes, like @shakerhood said, MT and access cabs used to be exclusively US built, along with the PRO and all vehicles built for export into Canada.

I said “most likely “, if the vin starts with a 5, it’s US built.

I had a Doka. I know how handy those beds are! Worst decision I ever made was selling it.

My dog won't do ramps either. Too scary. But she's only 78 lbs. I lift her up and in all the time. If she wasn't so excited about going for a ride it might be a different story.

It does. Plus the word that there will be front and rear factory lockers. With the looks, there is so much to like about it. Plus, the choice between 2dr and 4dr.

    I. Am. Content!!
