I'm looking to purchase a ARE Z camper shell for my double cab Tacoma TRD off road 4x4 .My question is do I need to do any suspension modifications for carrying the extra load or will the stock setup support this topper . Thank you all .

I'm surprised nobody has suggested that he needs a 3" lift, bigger tires, and all sorts of goodies!:rofl::rofl:

too many people on here like to spend money that they don't have to do things to their truck that they shouldn't. a wise man once said "the best mod is a payed off truck"

Even though I have a 2nd gen dclb, the overall answer is no. You will not need a heavier duty suspension to have the cap on the bed. Most caps are going to range within 150-255lbs depending on the build materials and extras. Here is a picture of my truck before I put any lift on it with the hard shell leer cap. Keep in mind that the picture also has slightly bigger tires than came on my stock truck. The picture has 265/70 17's in the picture. Hope this helps.20180706_111014.jpg

You'll be fine. The shell is only around 150lbs. I just got my Leer on my Taco last month and I actually think it drives a little smoother down the road. I live in AR and we have some horrible roads here. Just that little extra weight seems to keep the backend of the truck a little more planted. Could just be all in my head but either way you won't need to do anything to the suspension. Now adding a rack and RTT on top of the shell is a different story.

Truck.jpg I have the CX Series on mine and the sticker they put on the door said it reduced the carrying capacity by only 62#.

Adding a camper shell "leveled" my OR Access Cab by bringing the rear down a bit. No more rake. In my opinion, stock suspension is fine until more weight is added.

Only had about .25 inches of suspension sag after installing mine last week.
