It's finally time for a new set of tires, but I don't think I want to go with the Nitto Terra Grappler G2 again. They did well, but if there is anything comparable that would work just as well, or better, I am interested. Currently running 265/65R17's. Any help would be appreciated, I know there's tons of knowledge on this site, so thank you in advance for input.

Bump up one size to 265/70R17 and it will open up a whole lot more options. That size will fit your truck just fine with no modifications or rubbing. The Falken Wildpeak AT3W, Cooper Discoverer A/T3, and Toyo Open Country AT3 are all similar tires that won't break the bank and will likely perform better than the Nittos.

Wouldn't it affect my speedo going to a taller tire? I am seeing that they are a little less expensive bumping up to 70, but I don't do anything crazy with my truck sadly. It's a daily driver that has not even really gone in anything more dangerous than puddles of water (I basically baby it since it'll end up going to my son in 3 years).

The speedo won't change much at all from a 65 to 70.

Recently went back to p rated stock size Mastercraft Stratus AP. Nice to get my gas mileage and handling back. I have BFG Commercial T/A’s for the Winter

So excuse my ignorance, but I've seen people keep talking about c rated, e rated, and now p rated tires, what on earth is the difference?

I think it has mainly to do with intended use, construction and overall weight. Can someone answer definitively that a Tacoma can use the lighter P rated tire if they don't haul heavy loads or off road every weekend?

Specifically is the Continental Terrain Contact 265-75-16 (116T) an acceptable alternative than the heavier version. (I hope I got the lingo right)

This ^. The factory speedometer under reports the speed by about 2 - 3 mph at 70. Bumping up to the next size will actually cause the speedometer to correct itself.

The letter rating refers to the load carrying capacity of the tires. C and E load are specifically for LT (light truck) tires and generally have stiffer sidewalls and deeper tread to help carry the load. P essentially stands for passenger, and, while it can carry the specified amount of weight, it isn't meant for heavy duty use.

A Tacoma can get away with not running and LT C or E load tire. Even running at the maximum payload capacity of the truck, it won't approach the rating of a standard passenger tire. General wisdom, however, is that P rated tires do not last as long as the C or E load equivalent.

Nexen? Anyways I have the yokohamas and can’t complain, they are not as macho looking as tires like the st maxx or k02 though. Hankook tires are not bad either if you are on a budget.

I have the Cooper 4S, and love them. Not overly aggressive, due well in rain and snow, and can go off road if needed.

I just bought a set of Pirelli scorpion a/t 265/70-17. Reasonably priced and look good. Waiting for my wheels to get powder coated before I can run them. Just another option to look at. They were rated well on tire rack.
