Yes BUT would need to evacuate system. Not sure how much room you would have if the lines would be connected and the compressor loose. I’d keep at it till it goes.

Have you used all the 4 letter words??????

    Bloody knuckles?

    Cuts?

    Bleeding scrapes?

These are all requirements for difficult assembly. Until the offering of all the words and blood is completed, the assembly won't go together.

I had some crud/oxidation on the front of the compressor where the stator sits. I hit it with a wire brush, and I think it gave me a few more nanometers to get the snap ring to line up.

I recently replaced the ac clutch and the snap rings made a 30 min job last 3 hrs.
In the end I used a combination of snap ring pliers along with a flat head. Patience is key

Not good I bent the snap ring. I bought a heavy duty snap ring plier and bent the snap ring. Now I got to wait until Wednesday for the dealer to get some.

a little late to help but in my experience, which is not insignificant, those replaceable tip snapring pliers are almost useless. The really expensive ones are just mediocre. I used a 45* fixed jaw snapring pliers to get the ring in place and a small flathead to verify that it was completely seated. Snap-On makes some great snapring pliers and thats what I used, but there are many high quality options for less $.

Any decent auto parts store should have a snap ring assortment.

Found my spare snap ring that I dropped in my driveway. Clean the mating surface and magically it goes on 1st try. Everything runs good. Quietest I have ever had it. I did change all the idle pulleys also.

I found that the bevel side of the snap ring goes away from the compressor.

FYI I just did this tonight. My channellock universal snap ring pliers were useless. Picked up the Icon set and it had the 45 and straight pliers I needed to get the job done. Immediate difference. To get the rings in make sure you are spreading them wide enough and then just get one side under the lip. You can use a flat tip screw driver to tap in the other side.
