    Hey everyone,

As my 2nd post here, I have a question about hard water. Within the first couple weeks of having my truck, it got hit with some hard water. This stuff is ridiculous! I've tried a plethora of at home fixes and I can't seem to get rid of it. Vinegar, Meguiar's Water Spot Remover... The stuff doesn't go away. Would anyone happen to know of a way to get rid of these spots? It's the worst on the windows.

    Thanks!

I got another clay bar suggestion. I went and purchased one and gave it a go. No luck, still stuck on. May need a polish.

Well before you use polish it's a good idea to use the clay bar first. Will remove most of the contaminants in the water spots before you use polish.

I usually take a couple of table spoons of distilled white vinegar and mix it with filtered water in a spray bottle and spray it on the calcium marks and it comes right off. The bottle is labeled car douche.

Just be careful and rewax any place you use it. It is mildly acidic.

Thanks for the response. I've attempted this. Only used it on the glass and unfortunately, no luck. Here's what it looks like tonight after a clay bar. It is a bit difficult to see.

If your water spots have etched the clear coat, which is entirely possible, you'll need a machine polish. If they're on the surface, this might get 'em gone.

I just went through this. I picked up a 12 Tacoma 2 days ago and everything on the car was perfect except when I went to clean the windows. I tried vinegar, windex, and even light polishing compound with no success. After doing some research I found a post about using a product widely available called Barkeepers friend, available at most grocery stores and Walmart. I used the liquid version and applied it in a small test area in the corner of the windshield with a nylon scrubber pad (the blue kind on the backside of a dish sponge) and applied by rubbing in a circular motion. I wiped the small 6" test area clean with a towel and the windshield was like new in that spot!. Took me about an hour and a half and I was able to do the entire windshield and the 4 cab windows. I was at first worried that the nylon scrub pad might scratch the windshield but it does not scratch it at all. Try this and I will bet it works on your car.

Machine compound and polishing is the only true way to completely rid your clear coat of the etching.

Sounds like someone needs a Porter Cable, 6” backing plate, a set of orange pads, maybe some Chemical Guys V38, a 6 pack and an afternoon in the garage.

Don’t forget the beer. It doesn’t work without the beer.

Don't know about water spots, but my truck had some kind of film on passenger front glass that glass cleaner wouldn't touch. Tried some of my wife's glass top stove cleaner (small section first) and took it off clean as a whistle.

Spent all day yesterday removing water spots. Wash, clay bar, finishing polish, Jetseal. Not hard work, just a lot of work.

Seems the clay bar is a good idea. Think I'll give it a try ..
