I took lowcel's advice and did this today. Here's a quick little write up

    1. Open Sunglass holder and locate the only screw there

    2. Remove the screw

    3. Remove the Maplight/Compass/Sunglass Holder assembly by pulling on front of assembly (closest to windshield)

    4. Locate the wire at the front of headliner and undo tape holding it in place and pull it through so you have better access to the wires

    5. Splice your positive into the green wire and your neg/ground into the white/black wire (I recommend wire taps), then tuck your wires away

    6. Put your Map light/Compass/Sunglass holder assembly back in and mount it with the screw you removed in step 2. As you can se in the pic below I also ran my radar wire underneath that black plastic wire cover for the rearview mirror

I planned on putting the switch inside the sunglass holder but couldn't find a spot I liked. I just ended up putting it in the little piece of trim next to the mirror. It did make it a lot easier to wire up after I had the overhead trim down and pulled the connector out in the open. It works good when you are towing something...gives a nice view.

I wanted to get to the inverter mod to but had that same daylight problem. My next big project is a bed bar with LED fog lights wired to a 12v outlet in the bed. I got the lights in today guess its a start.

why is it mounted there, with suction cups no less

what you need is a visor clip. but instead of clipping to visor, clip to headliner. this will bring it up behind the tint out of the way, and pick up signals better. will also be invisable from outside. and no ghastly suction cups. if i have time ill post pics later.

I like my radars to have good line of site both front and rear so it gets better reception. Over the last 13 years I have had just about every top model from every radar company (Beltronics, Vector, Cobra, Rock Mountain, Valentine 1, Passport, etc). I have found that I like the Escort/Passport the best and also the Valentine 1. I have also mounted them all in different places and usually the dead center of the window is best, ugliest but best reception. Read THIS

    Good idea and looks cool...

Wish I could afford to use my passport, but the tickets were getting expensive.
