So I got a cheap dashcam and mounted it to the gopro mount. I had their cig/usb cord plugged into the cig outlet and my phone (LG G5) plugged into the aux/usb outlet. But I guess the camera drew too much juice that my phone wouldnt charge.

So i got this from Amazon and already routed it up from under the dash, behind the glovebox, up the edge of the windshield by the A pillar, and into the edge of the headliner to the gopro mount.

Anybody know where I can tap a 12v source (preferably on the acc line so its only on when the key is) underneath the dash without cutting any wires.

I seen the small fusebox by the driver side but I didnt want to have wires hanging down or leave the cover off.

I could run it to the fusebox under the hood, but i couldnt figure out where to go through the firewall without damage.

Btw, I'm leasing the vehicle through my business, so I dont want to make anything permanent.
I might upgrade this to a 24hr rpi system in the future with dual batteries, if I buy out my lease, but by then I might turn it in for a new taco.

There's an empty fuse in the under dash panel, but you'll have to leave the cover off. I'd also run it to a switch because it is powered all the time.

I tapped into the 12v in the auto dimming mirror. Turns on with ignition. You can pull down the upper console to access the wiring loom.

I ran mine through the firewall, same place as the throttle cable.

Then add-a-fuse in the main fusebox.

There is a company called MirrorTap, like DrVonEvilSatan mentioned you can grab power from the mirror. The MirrorTap just makes the install even easier.

Another option is grabbing the 12c Accessory from the overhead console.

I looked into the mirror taps. But my future plans were to add a rpi to the mix and I was looking for a non permanent 12v source other than the cig outlet inside the firewall.

Thanks ax, I will look into running a cable through the firewall by the throttle this weekend. Ill probably bring it into a bussblock for my other plans as well.
