Your comparing apples to oranges..read up on gearing, torque, engine configurations as applied to motorcycles...It's all in the design of the bike what it is going to be used for....
First of all a "crotch rocket" as you call it or Super Sport Bike... Its soul purpose is designed for Track Racing in which case you need lightness, speed and agility hence the light weight components, alloy materials and aerodynamics, to aid in all of this the bike is enclosed in plastic fairings, They are made for one purpose only to go fast, and effortlessly change position while in the Hump the football stance.

Harleys or least the ones I think your referring to are built for Cruising, Relaxed position used for the open road, longer hauls and odd in town rides where Comfort is a higher priority than high speed and aerodynamics.

I have had all types of bikes from dirt to super sport each bike is different, Trust me, You wouldn't want to use a R1 to ride coast to coast the same as you wouldn't use a Soft Tail to run a sport track. Your logic is like comparing the Technology in a Tacoma to a Corvette each are people movers but in very different ways.
The rest of your post I chopped is just dribble...No disrespect intended

No, I mean a bike that weighs half as much, goes twice as fast, and hooks turns at 120 without a stutter.

I'm thinking Ferrari. You're thinking Lincoln Town Car. They're both loaded with technology, just different types.

Semantics, huh? Yes, it is technology. In your defense, it's engineering too. Double check your definitions.

Engineering wouldn't be possible without technology, and vice versa. They go hand in hand.

To each his own I guess. I'm not a fan of crotch rocket bikes, but not about to bash anyone here who rides one. Whatever floats your boat. I like my Harley, if you don't- too bad.

    Have a 2002 1200 Sportster and a 2007 Ultra Classic.

Just like a Toyota.... gas and oil is all I need.

Took the Ultra from Iowa to California coast in July.
Totally trouble-free, even in 110 degree heat!

I'll be riding again with another long trip when this snow stuff goes away.

This is the replacement truck for my 97 frame rot truck. Need to get a game plan for mods!
I love it when people tell you what you can or can't do and they have never even been around you or your bike. I never said I could beat a new R1 but thanks for pointing out that there is no way in hell I could do it. I have done many roll on's with many liter bikes and nobody... I mean nobody... can believe how fast my Buell is. This is a purpose built bike... not a bike with bolt ons. I have won several national dyno shootouts with it and it is one of the fastest Harley Sportster motored bikes out there... This bike was built to go for short bursts. Do you know what torque feels like... do you know what the difference between 115 ft lbs and 75 ft lbs is... do you know what 100 ft lbs of torque feels like at 3000rpm all the way to redline? All these things added up to one fast bike from 40-120. Will I beat all bikes no... but 95% of them. There is a method to my madness... second gear roll ons... I am in the meat of my power and they are almost lugging I can be through two gears before they hit their next gear. Know your weapon!

I really can't say enough about the lack of knowledge and comments I get from people who KNOW all about bikes and what my Buell can't do.

Sorry for my rant but I am sick of people badmouthing what they don't know.

As far as Harley goes... they are in to one thing... chrome and leather. They left Buell out to dry because they wanted to focus on their lifestyle branding. This is no joke... Do some research... Buell was making money when other co's were not in this bad economy. What pisses me off about Harley is that they will not even let Erik Buell buy the company name and patents back and do it for himself again. They just want it to die... one of Motorcycles greatest designers sitting to rot... it won't be long before he comes back from the dead:) People used to make fun of the Buells with the low slung exhaust, shock underneath, fuel in the frame and his theory of Mass Centralization... now look at where all the exhaust on the new sport bikes are... underneath...

I guess us few Buell enthusiast don't fit anywhere... Import or Harley crowd ;-(

    Anyway that's enough of that...

i hate the harley lifestyle.its gay and thats a fact.most are posers.they buy a harley and throw all their old clothes out and buy everything they can harley.that is stupid.i love my suzukis but ill be damn if im going to wear a gsxr tshirt every day.im sure your bike is fast.to say you can beat 95% of bikes means your on crack. i like buells but every squid and their grandmother is riding a gsxr1k ,R1, and busas with turbos.
i would keep the buell and vrod line and kill the rest of the harley bikes

Man here we go again... I was saying I can beat 95% of the stock sport bikes I race around here... that doesn't mean I can beat all the street race bikes on nitrous or turbos in your area ... I was just saying I have raced many local liter bikes and many squids with their 600's that think they are the fasted thing on earth and they all go home crying about how they got beat by a Buell... Granted there are only a few Buells in the country that could do this to a liter bike.

Have you ever seen a Mustang get beat by a chevette... I have... The mustang was stock with some bolts ons and thought he was all that and the little ole chevette had a worked big block in it with primer for paint... The mustang boy looked pretty stupid for all his comments before the race.

Just don't go saying a Buell can't beat a R1 because the R1 is a fast race bike and a Buell is just a Harley... otherwise you might just loose a few bucks in a race:)

You should see how many bike lengths some of these guys that don't know about my bike want to give me in a race saying... oh it is just a Buell how fast can it be!

Lets call this case closed and agree Harley is shafting Buell and that we all love Tacomas!

I do like the Twin Cam platform and the Vrod motors... We have built several twin cam motors to around 115-120hp and they are great torque motors... plenty enough power to burn out through a few gears coming from a stoplight... Truthfully I am probably ready to get a more laid back bike since my Buell is on edge all the time and my boys are getting big enough to want to go on rides with me... The Vrod is kinda cool but I miss the torque of the built twin cams.

    We will see

I built mine from the ground up. Harley won't allow me to call it a Harley;)
It doesn't leak oil but it might by Spring as I'm thinking about adding a chain oiler. The infamous Harley oil leak was caused by a chain oiler. The same kind of oiler you will find oiling a chain saw chain.
