    Hello, new to TW.

During some routine 245K mile maintenance, I notice the front main seal was leaking. I took off the crankshaft pulley (Harmonic Balancer), pulled the seal, cleaned the area up and reinstalled a new OEM front main seal. All went nice and easy. Inspecting the pulley, I noticed on the seal side of the pulley had a descent amount of galling. I ordered a new crankshaft pulley. What I learned: There are two part numbers that seem to work with the 2005-2015 Tacoma 1GR-FE engine (4.0: V6). So I ordered up OEM part 13470-31014. The other OEM part number is 13470-0P010.

What I noticed is the mating surface to the seal side of 13470-31014 pulley has more material on the shaft, but mates up and aligns fine on the crankshaft. I weighed the pulley and it is 20 grams lighter than the old pulley which I learned is 13470-0P010. Both parts seem to fit the truck. However, I was informed by the Toyota parts dealer that one is a Japanese version and one is a North American version. The dealer did some digging and stated 13470-0P010 is the balancer I should have purchased. Dealer could not tell me if the 13470-31014 version would work.

Has anyone on TW experienced this Japanese OEM parts versus North American OEM parts topic with regards to the crankshaft pulley?

    Thanks! J

something like a FluidAmpr would be the best

according to google images the difference between those part numbers is one has rubber while the other looks all metal.

    IMG_1633.jpg IMG_1634.png

or the second one looks metal in the center but rubber on the far outside judging from this other pic of a failed one

Thanks for your reply. The new one is the Japanese version and has rubber like the old one I am replacing. Both are Toyota OEM. What I just found out is there L version and J version of the part. L is Locally Sourced (US) and J is Japanese Made and Sourced. The J version is 20grams lighter.

I am not certain FluidAmpr makes a pulley for the 1GR-FE engine.

Here are some photos. The pulley on the left is the old one Toyota OEM part 13470-0P010 (which is L for locally sourced) and Toyota OEM part 13470-31014 (which is J for Japanese made and sourced). One the Japanese pulley, there are two partially machined holes on the face of the pulley and slightly more material on the shaft that faces the engine. The L version has no machined holes and the shaft material is a bit less. There are no clearance issues with the J version part 13470-31014. Both have the rubber for dampening.

Both part numbers on Toyota parts vendors show both fit my truck. I verified the numbers on not superseded.

The only advice I could give is use your VIN and check on a parts site like https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com
But it sounds like you already did that?

Otherwise I guess go with what the parts guys said? It looks like the belt will line up the same, though hard to say from your pics

SR71, thanks. Yes, I did all the checking. Everything does align, all clearances appear the same, nothing noted different with regards to fitment. I thought I would through it out there with the hopes someone shared my similar experience. At this point, it will be a nice to know thing. Barring the two machined holes on the face of the pulley and 20grams lighter, that is it.

IIRC, FluidAmpr told me they'd need 100 people interested to consider R&D
    as well as this
"Based on the engine you have in your truck our pn: 571101 may be the best option to modify. Note modifying any part of a Fluidampr damper will void any and all warranties."

The 2-drilled holes on the J version are how the balancer is balanced.

I spoke to a local dealership, they told me if my Tacoma VIN starts with J then use part J. If it starts with a number then use part L. So, have you had any problems since the installation @Airbus A321 Driver?
