That o ring probably needed to be replaced anyway. Saw that extended lip on the first seal and figured it was a seal saver of some sort. If you have the oil pump cover off you are on the downhill side of this already.

Unfortunately, next-day delivery from Rockauto triples the price, and I’ve already special-ordered the O-ring for the oil-pump cover from a dealership near Austin. I’ve been up on ramps in someone else’s driveway for almost a week already, and I need to get back to Dallas.

I have access to a Harbor Freight mini-lathe here, so during all this downtime I made a seal-pressing tool that will be driven by the harmonic-balancer bolt.

5565C2A1-8C40-47BE-A3AC-F5778DDC49E9.jpg Because I didn’t realize that Amazon had sent the wrong seal, I unnecessarily removed my oil pump cover for better access to press it in.

This meant I needed a new cover gasket, which wasn’t stocked by any local parts stores. No local dealers had it either, and couldn’t order without prepayment. But they couldn’t do credit cards over the phone because their computer systems were being restored after a cyber attack.

Finally found one in Cedar Park, about 1-1/2 hours away, willing to order without payment. However, when we drove up there to pick it up, they found that it hadn’t been shipped. More calling around finally located one 2-1/2 hours south in San Antonio. So after a day of driving around, I was finally ready to reassemble last night.

None of these dealers had the HB retaining bolt, so the original went back in.

Control Car, I stole your idea to mark the position. About to go out and finish up. Bought all new belts as well.

First job I ever had I had to bike to work because I was too young drive. Were talking early 60's breaker braced against the floor twist the key. Sometimes it took few times to free the bolt. I usually just let the engine start they picked up the bolt and the tools. Once it was all back together tighten bolt and call it good. The engine turns in the tighten direction tighten the bolt as best you can and let nature and the bolt take of the rest. Probably did that 25 times or more over the years.

    BTW
I think you will be fine with CB re-use

it’s kinda like people’s opinion as re-using head bolts
    50% swear ok to re-use
50% swear have to be replaced
