Haru Creative tailgate decals/ Tailgate on my dining room table???

Hello TacomaWorld,

Well in my continuing search to make my Tacoma better/ faster/ and cooler I came across a very inexpensive Mod from user @jojo2afwx to make my Tailgate “pop” a little more, look cool, and let the lettering stand out.


These are actually “black” but if you line them up in the right light they reflect all sorts of different colors.
Anyway.... so here’s why my wife is gonna be PISSED!!!

According to Joe at Haru Creative these are best applied warm and to an (obviously) clean surface... well since apparently i live in the crappiest place and it’s still snowing here i decided to pull my tailgate and put it on my dining room table, clean it up and let it get to room temperature before i apply the graphics...

Pulling the tailgate was super easy I just consulted *gasp* the manual!!!! Page 117-119 I think. Came off super easy. i wiped the salt and grit off of it. Cleaned out the letters really good now I wait, this metal isn’t very thick so i imagine it’ll warm up quickly. I’ll update this once i get them on the tailgate and hopefully again when they’re on the truck looking cool and reflecting. Nothing like screaming TACOMA!!! To those behind you at night....

I got these on Amazon from Haru Creative if anyone is interested i can provide a link or just search Amazon. They make tons of cool stuff for Tacoma’s so depending on those these go I might try a few other things from them. Anyway hopefully my wife isn’t too mad, though i have a feeling we will be going out to dinner tonight! Haha.

Hahaha, i had to really work to get an angle that made them show off the colors. They look black head on. Well silvery Black really. Hopefully they mostly blend with my MGM truck except when they are reflecting headlights. If not, well they sell flat black too lol.

 

Nice man I would of never thought to take the whole tailgate off to put on the lettering.

 

Well I’m super particular about stuff, and i couldn’t really apply things at a good angle with it on the truck being verticle. I do have a pretty big work bench in my garage but the dining room seems like such a great place to work! Plus again i live in a COLD climate. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

 

I did the same thing when applying the Quicksand colored vinyl letters to my Pro Grille, dinner special. Removing the tailgate makes applying those letters a breeze, but I did mine on my work table in the garage.

 

Smart.... just not as warm lol. Besides it’s Friday, I’m betting i can still score a pretty good fish dinner tonight! Table not required. After all Happy Wife, Happy Life

 

Different variables. I put mine on in August, in Georgia, in my garage. I can assure you, it was plenty warm

 

Well, wifey wasn’t exactly THRILLED with a tailgate on the table, however she wasn’t upset enough not to help me out on the decals. She warmed the tailgate with a hair dryer so the vinyl would adhere as strongly as possible.

Went on super easy and stuck great, even lined up really easy. I don’t have anything to compare these with but they’re cut really well and go on great.

As i said earlier it looks grey/ silver straight on and i think makes the tailgate pop a lot more installed. I’m super happy with how it came out.

It’s a small detail that’s really not very noticeable except if you’re looking, which i really like. Not overstated but pretty cool IMHO.

Best i could do right now to show the reflection. I’ll try again when i have it out in the dark from a distance see how it looks. Overall I’m super happy with this Mod for less than $25 bucks.

Thanks I’m interested to see how it looks in pitch black with a light on it. I’ll go out and take a picture of it in a few hours and see how it looks!

Haha well that’s as much “in a post” as she would get lol.... hopefully it’s not too much of a risk taken.... she’s an amazing woman. After all she puts up with my “boy things” as she calls it... like a salty tailgate on the dining room table.

 

Oh the other thing about this vinyl. The bubbles come out.... according to Haru’s Amazon info the vinyl uses “air release technology” which sounds simple but if you’ve ever chased bubbles in vinyl (i have and it’s maddening!!!!!) this actually works. I’d be curious how effective it is on a larger scale but pushing the bubbles out on these letters was great, and i did it before my second cup of coffee....

 

I did the full blackout and letters on mine - patience is your friend.



I also have pictures somewhere of me building a complete motor on the dining room table. The only way I survived that was 1) she wasn’t my wife yet and 2) it was the motor for her car.

White looks pretty awesome on MGM, but of course seeing as it’s the best color for a Tacoma of course it does!!! Haha. Joking....

Wow a motor rebuild... not sure i could get away with that... that’s a bit too much time to be table-less.

There was a time in my life that i had a whitewater kayak flipped upside down (they’re flat on the bottom) and used that as my only table, ever wish sometimes we didn’t have to grow up... sigh

On a positive side i do have more money for toys now, and eating off a real table is easier

Looks good with the chrome corners, but for me reflective black was my choice.
