If you have had it replaced do you have any pics of before? I just bought a 2003 4x4 a few weeks ago and I had no idea the frame was messed up because of the "treatment" they put on the frame. From above the tire the frame looks great.... go a few inches back and its a disaster. Spare tire flew out on the highway the other day.... Im so disappointed.:(

Got the new frame from toyota from the big recall. Replaced a bunch of stuff underneath. I bought this truck about 8 months ago for $1k from a buddy! Deal of my life.
I had mine done about 8 months ago. I bought my 02 4wd for 1k from a buddy. I drove it from E. Pa all the way back to San Antonio TX. I got it swapped down here. I have to say, even though it took like 2 1/2 months. I would say they did a pretty good job. I had a brand new taco for free the whole time and they replaced the frame, leaf springs, spare tire holder, and a bunch of other stuff. The bill to the company was $14,300.00!! As I said earlier, I paid $1k for it.

My buddy has 01 OR D.C. & had his frame replaced 2 months ago. They had it for 2 weeks and he recieved a damn near new truck when it was returned. Extras they replaced were leaf springs, shocks, spare tire holder, brake lines and a few other things. He bought it new and says it rides as nice if not nicer then when new. There was a few rattles that developed but we tightened them up.

i was just wondering if there was some sort of way they would decide to swap it or not. Like how much damage it takes. The rear of mine is pretty messed up. I emailed the dealer that did the spray and said they did a shitty job and i wanted to show them what they missed a few hours ago. I hope i get a positive response. I didnt really say they did a shitty job. i made sure to sound nice about it.

My frame was NASTY!! the hammer swing test put a huge hole in it. I wish I took pics to show the before and after but my wife was 9 months pregnant at the time so life was a little hectic.

I didn't actually see it with my own eyes, they found the hole on the inside before they were going to spray it.

what do you do for the recall? Just go to a dealer or what? My truck is 15 this year, which is the cutoff and I'd actually like it to fail..haha

I live in Iowa but my truck had all the papers from Heritage Toyota S. Burlington, VT.
Frame failed in Iowa when I had it at the dealer for general service. They told me it failed and I qualifed for a new frame. Never heard of such a program. What a great deal!

4 days to replace the frame. Truck is like brand new.

If you already had it at a dealer, it'll have the extended 15 year frame warranty from date of 1st use.
Yours is an '03 so figure your 15 year extended frame warranty will run approximately to 2018.

If it rusts through in that time, then you'll get a new frame and all the parts that go with it. Even if they "rust-proofed" it earlier.

Frame, rear springs, brake lines, e-brake cable, LCA's, hardware, brake fluid, anti-freeze, alignment, A/C recharge, free labor, free loaner vehicle.....
    Something to look forward to.

If you do qualify down the line, I'd replace the exhaust and shocks for sure. They will already have them off and you'll get free labor and it'll help the mechanic because he'll be working with fresh, clean parts. Saves him time and he makes more money.
You'll also end up with life-time warranty with those items if ever replaced at a Toyota dealership.
    Mine were changed.

I had my fluids changed, clutch and fuel filter replaced while out of the truck. Easier and cheaper with it out of the truck. (99,000 on the truck.) That I had to pay for.

    Good luck.

Are they supposed to replace the springs? I bought my truck from the dealer, it was a trade in, and while they had it they replaced the frame. I got the old worn out springs though....

I just took it in and said there was a recall on my vehicle. The guy looked up all the recalls and came up with 2: Frame and a recall for a fuel line shield.

They scheduled me for a frame spray treatment and found a 5 inch hole on one side, and a 7 inch patched hole on the other. I was told I couldn't take my truck and they would be replacing the frame. 24 days later I had a practically brand new truck!

Mine doesnt have any holes... yet. But I did go out the other day and bang around with a hammer. The places they missed and some where they painted over chipped off all over the place. I feel like i could drive nails through some places. Ill get some evidence pics up tommorow.

I posted some pics of the corrosion in my profile. just run your arrow over my camera thing.
