Have to disagree with you here. There is definitely something up with the design of the AC system in these trucks that makes this issue more prevalant. I moved to my current location in 2007. Have owned 6 different vehicles in that time including a corvette, jaguar f-pace, montero, and three different Cadillacs. I never once encountered this moldy smell issue or had to turn off recirc or spray Lysol down the intake vents of any of my vehicles until I bought my 20 OR.

Does your Tacoma have a AC filter ? May need to replace the air filter in the glove box?

turn your truck on and turn the heater on max and blower fan on max.

close the windows and let it run for 30 minutes
watch the windows fog up on the inside.

then crack the windows with the heater still on full. wait until the moisture goes away. then roll windows up and turn truck off.

i live in the most humid place and i have to do this once a month in ALL of my vehicles.

Interesting. When my wife is in the passenger seat I notice a smell also. It doesn't matter if the AC is on or off.
I usually hear a muffled noise, then the smell appears.
    Anyone else have this issue?

Always be sure the recirculation is off before turning truck off. Had an issue in Florida with this. Turning recirc off as well as AC fixed it. Allows the system to vent while truck is not being driven

I saw you cleaned the EVAP, but did you consider replacement? I agree with others that mold might have entered the chat somewhere and you may need to chase it down.

This might sound crazy, but is there a mold mitigation service in your area? They have specialized detection tolls that could expedite the process.

I’m not experiencing this yet (only 6 months and 4900 miles in), but is recirc supposed to be default? I can’t turn the AC on without it also coming on, first vehicle I have ever owned of dozens that does it this way..currently my only gripe is the AC performance is just ‘meh’ but that seems to be a trend with every new/newer car I have driven.

Take out your cabin air filter replace with new one and spray some lylsol disinfectant spray in there while running just don’t go over board with it . It will eliminate the smell . Worked for me .
