Not sure how you would do it or why you would want to, nobody makes an electronic rack for a Tacoma that I know of and the hydraulic system works just fine.

Not sure about Tacoma’s but there’s a guy down in Ramona who builds custom EPS systems. Mostly classics and race cars. Not sure if a Tacoma would be much different or not. He also sells DIY kits/parts.

I may get a kit from him for my Integra. Just not sure I’m willing to make the required modifications to the HVAC ducts under the dash.

There’s some talk on Audizine build thread of a guy doing it on his Novato blue B6 S4 track car build using I think Nissan electric steering equipped car parts from a junkyard.

I think on that particular column it was the column that had electric assist and not the rack. Makes sense given the B6 chassis factory rack location is a narrow tunnel.

One reason I can think of is tight maneuvering. Electric steering can be almost effortless whereas hydraulic takes some amount of muscle.

Would rather have EPS if I was a urban delivery driver.

In a Highlander it'll be 'you get what you get' but in general EPS can be made so you can adjust it to be lighter or firmer. Sports cars will stiffen it up during high speed to be less twitchy and lighter during slow speeds.

Plus EPS doesn't rob the engine of power unlike a hydraulic system.

EPS can be really good.. just depends on the application.

Had thought about this before, would a MR2 electric power steering pump be a viable option?
