There's a certain configuration of Tacoma that does not exist in the USA for some unknown reason. It's a TRD Off-Road with both the access cab and manual transmission. Canada sells them and they're on the Toyota Canada website, but not on the USA website. I've confirmed thru email with Toyota North America of that exclusion. Is it possible to import a new Tacoma from Canada without too much hassle?

Here's the link of the truck:

Don’t wanna get a sport AC and install a rear locker? :) I think it will be less of a hassle.

The only thing is that A-TRAC will be missing.

Things like the extended frame warranty have to be done in Canada (per other members posts)
sounds like major hassel to me

I’d think there’s a concern of getting any warranty work done.

If you import it to the USA you will have no Toyota USA warranty coverage, period.

    Check build thread!
Trust me. Just buy a sport and get a locker installed. I am not a fan of the locker in the OR (I have one, it’s given me a hassle), ARB air locker is much better. Only things you’re missing out on is A-trac and I’d trade that in a heartbeat for an Air locker.

my trd sport is a canadian transplant. but i have no idea how it got into the states. they're correct though. there's minimal to zero warranty support.

i was able to get the leaking third brake light fixed under recall, but the canadian-spec recalled oem toyota block heater was a no-go. my options were to ignore it, remove it, or they remove it for me, or pay them standard shop rate to replace it at full cost.

Yeah it's gonna be pricey. Few grand minimum. You don't just need the lockers, you need air, and while they're in there, they might as well regear you then, and if you're gonna regear you're gonna want bigger tires...

I have been researching into how to do this to for that very configuration. This thread has pretty much helped me realize to just get the sport and go with ARB lockers. Thanks for starting this thread!

I actually started a NEW post on this exact subject. I don't want to get too excited as there's always a show-stopper to wild ideas like this. If this would work, it could potentially make a locked Sport better than a stock TRDOR as it would lock BOTH ends.

Here's the link to the kit: https://www.stage3motorsports.com/s...tacoma-8-75-8-ifs-arb-air-locker-package.html

Not sure how different it would be for a new Tacoma, but FWIW, we imported a used truck and SUV from Canada to Tennessee in 2016 and it was was super simple and cheap. There are lots of websites and brokers that try to make it look like a more complicated procedure than it is (prob just to get your business/money) but if you dig through the misinformation, it wasn’t very hard to import them (importing vehicles back to Canada from the US was expensive and a huge PITA though)

BTW- I bought my Tacoma brand new in the US and brought it back to Canada and the manufacturer’s warranty and recalls were all covered without question...

There is a S60 Polestar in Rebel Blue in Canada that’s up for auction on carsandbids and I want it badly. But the whole import thing sounds intimidating.

Tons of our trucks get exported daily from Canada to the states. I’d start by calling Canadian dealers just across the boarder, and seeing if they will deal with the exporting.
American dollar is also 30% or so better than Canadian.

Call customs up and see what the requirements are to import. Likely won’t be that big of a deal.

Interesting regarding the latter half. Everything I’ve seen was contrary to this but it still is not something I’d bother messing with for a 40k+ truck.
