Curious to see how that modular bumper "holds up" against opposition... That's my only concern with this truck. Took a rear end in my second gen and only got a very slight bend in the bumper/minimal paint scratching.

    High strength steel frame.

    https://noln.net/2016/05/31/techspec-2016-toyota-tacoma/

"Starting with the frame, the Toyota engineering team added high strength steel to help enhance rigidity and overall strength. Ultra-high strength steel was integrated into the body shell using a new hot stamping process that reduces weight."

"Repaired and/or improperly sectioned reinforcements failed to exhibit the strength and performance ratings of genuine new original equipment service parts installed to specification.
Therefore damaged occupant cabin reinforcements must be replaced."

100% agree, "damaged occupant cabin reinforcements"- better than damaged occupants .

The rear bumper is a joke . The receiver hitch is the only stout part. The rest is plastic. I bought a real bumper after I was rear ended I took it apart for a insurance estimate and applied the money to armor

This bumper is begging for bed damage.

If you hit anything bigger than a cottonball, there will be damage to the rear bumper. If I had one complaint, its the rear bumper.

More than one person here has been in a relatively minor collision being rear ended only to find out the frame back there folded like limp spaghetti.

Got rear ended probably 5-10 mph. Rear bumper and hitch assembly needed replacement. Right rear frame needed to be pulled. In my eyes, pretty much what you'd expect when a trailer hitch with a moment/leverage arm is hanging down that's rigidly bolted to a c-section gets hit by a 1.5 ton car.
