What do you mean "no issues?" What "issues" do you think we are referring to?

I drove a OR DCSB a total of 6 miles and had plenty of cause for concern. Driving at 60 down a 2 lane country road for two miles with gentle, gradual hills yielded a smooth ride but when I looked down at the tach it was jumping around like a flipper on a pinball machine. I then jumped on the highway. Again, smooth ride, but going 70 into a headwind the thing locked into 4th and wouldn't come out.

All cars downshift when they need more power. The AT Tacoma CONSTANTLY needs more power at highway speed. If you're comfortable running at 3100RPM going 75 all day every day, and you THINK that's how all of your other vehicles drove, then I'm sorry sir, but you haven't been paying attention.

So I ask you again, what "issue" are you not having that we all are?

S5 (5th) gear at 75 mph is about 1800 rpms on my truck, in D it might toggle from 1400 to about 1800 as it jumps from 6th to 5th, if it drops to 4th it might ramp up to 2400. I never seem to have any issue with having enough power to accellerate to any speed. Different modes for different circumstances, take the time to learn and employ them makes the truck really shine.

You have 6 miles experience with the A/T and you hated it and continue to encourage others to hate it too . I have 16k miles and over a year with it and I think it's been the best of the 5 trucks I've owned (2 manuals and 3 A/Ts). I just encourage people to play with the modes, learn about it before passing judgement too quickly. If they still don't like it, then move on to something else but at least they tried.

That is an outright lie. SHOW me where I encourage others to hate it.... in fact, show me where I said I "hated" it!!

I've stated this too. Different modes for different circumstances. A guy like you is happy to drive it that way and that's fine. I am not. Lots of us are not. And that's what I've been saying this whole time; you haven't been reading, clearly.

Because it only took six miles to realize it wouldn't work for me and my needs. You've spent the last 16K miles trying to find your trucks electronic G-spot... I'd rather row a stick. That's fine. It is NOT okay for YOU to get your pants in a wad and wonder why everyone is complaining and then come down on someone like me that tries to explain it to you.

I appreciate this. But you've got to understand most people have dropped 30-40K on something they can't just "move on from" and they aren't getting any understanding from Toyota.

You're saying the auto sits at 3100 at 75mph? I think it's much lower than that once it hits OD

Absolutely... if it gets stuck in 4th. I've seen it, a guy on here recorded the truck doing it, and look at the link I provided and do the math.

I live in Kansas. I've seen three in the Wichita area. They don't work here in the Midwest, gentlemen. And it's not our fault for not liking how it drives.

My truck is in 6th 90% of the time with the occasional downshift into 5th. The only time it sees 3000 rpms is when I'm accelerating to speed on an on ramp.

There's 250,000 3rd gen tacomas on the road. You sir are in the 1% club who find an issue with it. On highway at 75 the truck sits at 1700ish RPMs.

Again I would love to see and drive one of these tacomas that has an issue.

Good Lord............"Can't we all just get along".....

Thanks all for your input. I actually got what I came here for - more knowledge about how the trans works and a smidge more confidence that the thing might last a few miles in spite of itself. I started using S mode today and, to be honest, it helped (or at least that's my perception).

I have no choice but to run this thing - at least in the short term. I wish you all good luck.
