Hahaha okay gang up on me fellas!

Glad I'm the only guy here that doesn't like the way the third gen AT shifts...

    Oh wait... I'm not.

Maybe not the only one but certainly the minority.

I find it a bit ironic that if I had to make a complaint about the AT it would be that it doesn't downshift fast enough sometimes when I need to quickly pass someone which completely constrats your experience.

If it got stuck in 4th that is an issue but I've never had mine get stuck in a gear.

And I'll say it again... Congratulations. I wish you many years of fun driving!

I'll continue to row mine along because that is what works for me.

No he hasn't. My truck stays in 6th on the highway, period unless going up a hill. Mine doesn't jump around or exhibit any of the problems mentioned by a relative small percentage of people on this forum. The ignorance (by you in this case) is assuming that just because some people are having these problems, that everyone is having these problems. So there is one video of a truck locking in 4th gear on the highway, that truck is a so called "unicorn" that needs fixing. The people yelling the loudest are the people having issues, people that aren't enthusiasts aren't going to register on a Tacoma forum to say how great they are.

Different RPMs? Mine doesn't do that. Sounds like you DO have an issue!

I don't memorize what RPM my truck is at at every speed. As I have already stated my truck stays in 6th gear unless going up a sizeable hill, its a double OD trans, it is going to happen.

The issue with how you are presenting this is by calling everyone with an AT a liar that says they are happy with it or aren't experiencing the issues, like you did with JOECOVA. I'm glad you are happy with your MT, there are also plenty of people happy with their autos. There are some that are unhappy. You cannot please everybody and that is the nature of the beast, some people are going to have issues. Some of the trucks are having real issues, completely understand that but this is not a classwide issue, its fairly isolated to a relative few.

I just traded in my '02 Tacoma for a 2017 Tacoma (V-6) & I am sorry I did now. Hate the way the 2017 shifts -exactly as described (by neilbedwell)- From a start it shifts into 2nd & 3rd promptly, but then there's big lag before it will go into 4th, it really bogs down & feels I'm driving a like a 4 cylinder. Then when you're slowing down the transmission clunks if you take your foot off the brake to start rolling again. At first I assumed it had to do with Toyota gearing it weirdly to try to get the gas mileage numbers up but after reading some other posts on the subject I'm planning to bring my truck to dealer & see where I get trying to get them to correct the situation. (Don't have high hopes.) Also, really shit gas mileage. Wish I'd kept my '02.

but it does work for most people

No not really, some early 2016 trucks were shipped with low AT fluid. Most people dont need the TSB.

I aslo never implied it doesnt happen, I simply want to find one a drive one and see if the problem is real or simply PEBCAK. You are entireled to you opinion and your negative opinion of the AT is not something I have a problem with but rather your wide sweeping generalizations that the AT is problematic, has issues by most people or the majority, which is completely and utterly false.

To answer the OP's question, in January 2016 I purchased 3rd Gen and as the dealer was transporting the vehicle 20 miles to get pre-delivery leather seats installed, the tranny froze and needed replacement. I was offered other Tacomas on the lot or trade with other dealers (but none were Inferno) so decided to get the truck with the new tranny. I experience the hunting for gears also (live in hilly/mtn New England area), even after TSB service update, so I drive in ect mode 75% of time and am overall ok with that. My 2012 Gen 2 that I traded in only got 19.5mpg on its best day. This one has gotten as high as 24mpg on the same road trips, so I'll take that as the trade-off.
