Hey hit me too. I'm planning on doing mine but if P&P is cheap enough I'll pay for it instead.

So I've just paid for the replacement clutch. Stage 2 clutch kit and heavy flywheel from URD. There is like, an inch of pedal movement. It's either on or off. I have a feeling driving in traffic will suck for awhile until I get used to it. Hopefully not that big of a deal.

it’s like $900 for all the parts. I did my install myself so I didn’t pay any labor.

stage 2 and heavy flywheel is not for street. It’s for crawling. I had no issues at all. If @geekyadam replaced his clutch and flywheel and has issues, the clutch line has air in it due to improper bleeding or the pedal adjustment needs to be done.

word to the wise, while you’re in there replacing stuff, replace the throwout bearing. Thank me later.

No pilot bearing in 3rd Gen clutch? Correct?

What's the end of the story ? Was the disc fried ? How was the flywheel ? Did Toyota eat the labor?

URD Stage 2 clutch kit + heavy flywheel: $851.78
    omepartworld replacement throwout bearing: $114.03
    labor: $826.25
    ------------------
    Total: $1792.06
(Toyota quoted me $1300 just to disassemble the transmission, not including parts, not including rebuilding, etc)

Would have loved to do it myself to save money and learn all the parts of my truck, but we've been slammed last few weeks with commitments so I knew I wouldn't have the time.

Yeah I did replace the throwout bearing. Just fyi, I talked with URD and they admitted that no one in aftermarket crowd has really made a successful 3rd gen throwout bearing, so they recommended getting an OEM replacement, so I did.

Disc is cooked for sure. I have all previous parts in my truck so I can post pics if anyone wants to see it. Toyota paid $0. They didn't care that I've been driving stick for over 15 years, they didn't care that I've been babying the clutch, they had no idea what I was referring to when I tried to explain how I two-foot when offroading because it saves the clutch. They just said "We see that you have a lift and offroad tires and offroading can wear out a clutch sooner than expected." and they stuck to that line so they wouldn't have to pay for it. I even opened a case with Toyota head office and a case manager looked into it for me. They seemed on my side for sure when I explained everything as objectively as I could, asking them to "Please don't take just my word for it, I'm sure you hear plenty of annoyed customers with one-sided stories...I just ask that you please ask some mechanics out there if someone knows how to drive a manual transmission, does it seem odd that a clutch would be completely burnt in 26K miles and see what they tell you". However, after the case manager called the Toyota dealership they changed their tone. Here's a fun point of info that proved to me I was hosed; the case manager said that the Toyota dealership said I brought in the truck caked in mud so they know I was beating the crap out of it. I pressure washed the truck the day before. Even if there is mud somewhere underneath, that doesn't mean crap. That's when I knew that nothing I said would change their mind. I know 3rd gen Tacoma owners that slip their stock clutch and burn it up like hell and their clutch is still running strong. There are a handful of others I've found with similar situation as me where their clutch burnt up in under 50K miles, some of them rarely offroad. Somethings definitely up with stock parts on some Tacomas, I just wish I knew which parts/models are affected. Maybe something to do with the accumulator...?

All in all, I'm obviously very disappointed in Toyota. They have confirmed for me that, if they have any potential avenue of avoiding paying for something, they will. They weren't even willing to just cover labor or even part of it. $0

If you drive a Tacoma and the clutch wears out prematurely, don't expect Toyota to pay for anything, no matter how much factual evidence you have on your side. Only thing you could do is prove to them how you drove it, which is impossible, and they know that.

Hey tell me about the pedal adjustment. I had the replacement done, so how can I confirm if the mechanic did any pedal adjustment? Can I do it myself after the fact?

Hmmm... time to step up the clutch research. There's likely a 275mm OEM app with greater clamp and durability....

It means there may be better more daily driver/street able options out there for less money.

You can do it from inside the cab. You'll have to youtube it or google it. I didn't have to do mine.

Well, definitely shouldn't post that info here. Better to just allude to something but not offer more info for everyone to learn more.
