It's not a true Atkinson cycle, it's just simulated.

So these engines have been in the wild since 2014.

I did a carbon cleaning on a 2015 Audi Q3 the other week, so maybe BMW has, but Audi has not figured it out yet.

I know the Atkinson cycle is simulated, where I was going is that this engine has not been out for long. I thought it came out in 2016, my bad and you corrected me. You said it has been out longer that 2016 and you are right, it was 2015. You made it look like it was more than a year. Nonetheless, it has not been out for long, its still 2019 so too early to judge I think.

I'm not disputing that. Toyota makes awesome products and I love my Tacoma, I do really miss my FJ with its 4.0L. Kinda wish I never sold that one.

Some really good conversation this morning for all of us, good for the mind.

Where are you getting that from?

The 2GR-FSE/FKS is one of the most proven, reliable engines ever made.

I've seen that video and it's white smoke. Usually that's coolant/water. I'm not sure what a catch can would do in that case?

You are not talking about the same engine as I was. The Lexus IS250 does not have the 2GR-FSE/FKS. I was making a point about manufacturers. Nonetheless here is some info:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is...is250-carbon-build-up-warranty-extension.html By the way the cost to clean the carbon was almost $5000.

Very hot topic but i’m gonna throw this out here anyway.......For example: If you install a cheap catch can, and some lube ‘tech’ overfills your oil by say...1/2 a litre, most of that will end up in the catch can and not inside your intake or burnt to a rock-hard-crisp on your valves (eventually restricting air flow)
It may happen, it may not, but considering how cheap and easy ($25 & 1/2 hr) they are to install.....Why not?

Also, to the people who are saying that Toyota would have included one on the 3rd Gen’s if they thought it was necessary......I wouldn’t be surprised if the engineers did request a catch can, but the bean-counters wanted to save $15/truck......

No. There are lots of easier ways to save $15. They saved thousands giving us all crappy paint on our 3G frames. The cost of a catch can is just micro-pennies compared to proper undercarriage paint.

Toyota did not install a catch-can for the following reasons:

1- A catch-can requires maintenance to be of any benefit (must be emptied)

2- No one knows what the fuck a catch-can is who doesn’t read this forum or watch Ronny Dahl or Banks Power YouTube videos (IE almost no women, and not many men in general)

3- No one is going to maintain a catch-can when they have no idea what the fuck it is.

4- The brownish wet oil you find in the catch can is caused by the catch-can creating condensation as it cools, leading catch can owners to believe they kept that chocolate-milk-looking-gunge out of their engine, when in fact it was created by the catch-can itself.

I agree with you, Toyota will save every penny they can. Look at GM with that locking steering column. The updated pin was just pennys. There was a show on this. The car industry is very competitive and low margin, they cut where they can.

    Edit reason - spelling
