I've seen pictures of Tacoma beds being lifted from the front to access the fuel pump.

Has anyone tried to lift the bed from the side instead of the front?

If I could get to each side of the frame like this, I could reach the fuel pump and the outer side of the frame where I want to do some clean up.

Not sure if this helps, but I used both methods when I changed the fuel pump on my '94 Ranger. After unbolting the bed and fuel filler neck, I slid it back over top of the wheels and also tilted it toward the passenger side. I had full access and had the pump changed out in 20 minutes.

It turns out it was a bad relay...

Interesting. Let us know if you do it. I tipped the bed back on my Ranger

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
Not being a smartass but genuinely interested...if you're going to go that far, why not just lift the whole bed off? Seems sketchy to have your arms and head under that when you could call a buddy and the two of you pop the bad off and put it on the ground until you're done.

That would be swell for a big job I guess. But when you tip it you can do it alone, There's less chance of damaging something, and it takes alot less time. There may be some additional things you have to dissconnect to remove the bed too. Like lights??

I've heard it takes 4 guys and 6 bolts to completely remove the bed. I have 3 who can help. I would definitely have it WELL secured before I reach under it.

I'm thinking about the compact nature of just lifting the bed to gain access without having to store the bed separately while I work on it.

There is an X shaped steel bed lift that sells for roughly $180 that I could hook up to my engine hoist. I wouldn't mind that. Though the bed lift would turn into one of those tools that I might use once every 5 years. Limited use tools like that are the reason I have no space to do anything in my garage these days and need to consider tilting the bed. LOL :)

I would want to unhook everything. Also, I'm not nearly as strong as the guy in the picture. So I would have some help.

My 100lb girlfriend and I removed my bed by ourselves without talking off the fuel neck. It’s really not all that heavy.

I know a kid who removed his 6ft bed alone. Then he spun it on his index finger like a basketball.

This is feasible. 4 guys is way overkill... unless the other 2 guys were planning on getting inside of the bed to make the lift heavier. Then you may need 6 guys.

There were two guys and a dancing bear in the bed when the kid did it.

If I pull the bed, I like the idea of these foldable saw horses. When I'm done, I can fold them up and put them away. They are rated at 440 Harbor Freight pounds. So two of them should hold up a 250 lbs bed. Ha!

not necessary, just unbolt 6 bolts, unplug wiring to the lights, slide bed back far enough to get to the fuel pump, 2 guys, rinse and repeat

I just used the factory supplied bottle jack and had a second hand to help me lift the bed enough to wedge it between the frame and the bed. The rest was crank and go, easy peasy.

I'm planning to clean up some surface rust from gravel on the outside of the frame for the rear like I did the front.

    Surface_Rust_07_2c9e7a65649518606890d8540a9da01daf1d3e89.jpg

The inside area of the frame is clean. I don't want to disturb the inside. So I want to keep the outside looking as good as the inside.

Even though this truck will never be exposed to road salt or chemicals, I do like to treat the frame and parts with Fluid Film. It makes it easy when you want to remove a bolt to work on something.

    Frame_04_Left_Side_c02532dc8d32c5e5b0acdd27efaa0eca290ad2c4.jpg

For the front, I used a sandblaster to completely clean the surface rust where the gravel wore down the original frame paint.

    FR_01_Sandblasted_551bafd5b27ff65fc3b2329668409a6946c05aa6.jpg

Then primed it with Rust Oleum self etching primer.

    FR_02_Primed_2fddf33c63379ab674925826aee9cda1de4167e1.jpg

Painted it with some high chip resistant Farm Implement paint.
