i was just looking at the post about the 2009 tacos and i saw that it'll have a reverse camera, this would really help me get my boat trailer on and off when i'm alone. Has anyone done this mod to there tacoma? I did a search but couldn't find anything.

    Anyone?

    Thanks

I had one on my Silverado. As soon as my Crutchfield order arrives I'll be installing it on my Taco.

Won't help for checking for obstacles, but I have thought of many more uses that I am not willing to share here.

I have one that fits on my license plate and is wireless. I just spliced into the reverse lights for power. So when I put it in reverse it powers up on the screen. I will try to get pictures this afternoon. It is a shift 3. Not real fancy but it does what I need it to do. I use it to back up to my camper when I'm hooking up alone.

Has anyone ever used the swift hitch? i think i'm leaning towards that....no installation and you could reuse it on other vehicles

I sell towing accessories, and have personally used one. It seemed like a solid and as I mentioned before I know there will be other times it will be used. To see in tight quarters around corners and the night vision worked great.

I just ran the power wire over the bumper and tied into the reverse lights. Its all nice and neat under the back of the truck.

most of the double din units that have GPS also have an option to add a camera. Few (if any) come with it. Start looking at www.crutchfield.com and then start shopping around with the model numbers.

Does anyone one know where to locate the reverse wire on the 08's? I just ordered a Kenwood camera for my in dash DVD/NAV player. Just wondering if anyone had located the wire and know what color it is, thanks in advance.

I just did this last weekend. I just ran the wire back to the rear tail light and tapped into the reverse light. Take the tail light off and you can't miss it. Very easy, even for a complete novice like me.

I tapped in to the constant 12V on the trailer harness, that way it's on all the time. I bought a cheapo unit at Costco and it would take 30 seconds to warm up and show an image when I put it in reverse. Since I tapped in to the constant 12V it is warmed up by the time I put in in reverse. The 12V is only on when the ignition is on so it turns off when I turn off the truck. Other cool thing about this unit is that the monitor has a USB charging port so I keep my Sandisk Sansa connected to it so it's always charged.
