So I just picked up a new 2023 TRD OR SB 4x4 after a pretty bad complete total of my 2021 SR5 SB 2wd. My truck cover was totaled as well.

I previously had a Bakflip CS1 with integrated track for racks, etc. They no longer make it.

I really need a cover and I am debating between the Lomax Stance and the Bakflip MX4. Both seem to get great reviews. The Lomax would save me a few dollars, whereas with the BakFlip I know what to expect.

I am debating between these two because I really need to access the whole area of my bed regularly (to get to toolboxes, etc.), but do not need to remove the entire cover too often. I also really dislike the stick-on brackets the Stance uses, but I rarely have driven with my cover open in that way.

My major questions between the two are:
    1. How do they compare durability-wise?
    2. How do they compare in ease of removal and reinstallation for those times I do need my whole bed?
Many thanks for any feedback anyone can give!

I am currently making the same decision that you are! I’m leaning towards the Lomax as I don’t want to “relocate “ my bed rails. This will come into play if or when I add a bed rack. Interested to see what others say here.

Ihas used the relocation brackets on my last truck and that never really affected me, but I don’t tire down many loads…

I really was hoping for something with t-slots so I could add racks etc., like with the CS. However I’m not finding any real viable options for my needs… the Retrax is tempting, but the 11”x11” canister that is always in the back of the bed is keeping me away from doing that route.

I like the idea of rails with the Lomax (or the Bakflip for that matter), but although the low rails look great, accessing the bed with tri-folds then becomes tricky I believe, in most cases.

I looked at the Retrax XR for the slots. Agri-Cover(Lomax) has an Adarak system that works with the hard flip covers.

I saw those and was sold until I read the installation sheet and realized they called for drilling into the bed and then is basically held in place by the bolts per side.

I know this isn’t what you asked, but for what it’s worth I had the Bakflip MX4 before I switched to a shell and I absolutely loved it. I put that thing to work and it always preformed flawlessly.

Sorry for not answering the question but hopefully that might help some. I don’t have any experience with the two you mentioned specifically.

FWIW….The MX4 folds all the way up so you have full bed access instantly (and it locks in that position).

Thanks I appreciate it! I actually meant to say I comparing the MX4 and the Lomax Stance…. I sometimes move too fast typing in these phones

I had a BakFlip before and my gut is that they are a little more rugged for working. But, the one I had was pretty heavy to remove (more awkward). I don’t mind the relocation brackets.

Glad to hear you loved yours! I’ve actually never heard anyone complain about either brand.

I looked at the MX4. That’s the one that needed the bed rails relocated. Throws off adding bed rack.

I don’t know about all bed racks, but the Voodoo bed rack has a version with brackets for BakFlips using the track relocation brackets.

Yeah. I’ve heard a lot on here about bad powder coating from Voodoo.

Oh. I think BillieBars also makes brackets for the BakFlip, but not sure how they affect water leakage.

I’m considering the Billie bars. But tonneau cover first. Just being very methodical about making a decision.

haha sounds like me... I'm very cautious about what I do, but I've decided to go forward with the MX4... I had a BakFlip before and I know they are solid. Good luck with you decision @Taco Monster 20!

Great to know, than you @Road_Warrior! I'm not sure I will be able to afford the BillieBars right away, but I'm so happy to know they work. I am going to go with the MX4, and hopefully get some bars in the future! :fingerscrossed:

Anytime! For what it’s worth when you do buy bars down the road, BillieBars is a fantastic company.

They have great customer service and the owners are truly good people. I was actually able to meet them when I drove to pick up the set that I bought. They also make solid products. I highly recommend them.

Thanks for the conversation on this. I’m leaning toward the Lomax. Best of luck with your purchase.

I looked at both and then went with an Undercover Flex. I went with the Flex because it uses your existing bed rails so it took like 15 minutes to install. I am super happy with it.

Great looking truck! How long have you had the tonneau cover?
