Has anyone painted/replaced the chrome ring around the grill?

My 22 is MGM with the blackout package and it annoys me the rear bumper is chrome along with the ring around the grill. I know they make covers that stick over the bumper to make then body color or I could get them painted, but I've not seen the chrome ring around the grill. Has anyone replaced that/painted it/not made it chrome, and is there a replacement thats for sale or am I SOL and need to source something on my own?

 

Sr comes black, if you are trying to look proper just buy the sr surround. Cheap way is plastidip or paint but the chrome is difficult to paint properly

 

Do you know where i can buy said surround?

 

Local toyota dealer or your choice of online, they are all over Amazon, ebay etc. But the surround off of a sr model is matte black

I painted mine black back in 17 and just took a look at it. It has a few small chips that could be touched up but I’m surprised how well it’s held up.

 

Doesnt make much sense to me why the blackout package has chrome on it...

 

On my '07, after two failures to adhere on the grille emblem, I had to soak it in bleach for a week to remove the chrome.

 

I hated that my taco had all black out other than goofy rear caps and front surround :/ swapped the caps and also the front surround trim with eBay parts…

Perfect and are the right color . I did the plasti dip at first but after while got chips and some peeling so that why I just replaced them entirely

 

Wet sand it/scuff it up with 200-400 grit sandpaper, clean it with rubbing alcohol, hit it with ~3 coats of SEM Trim Black, and call it a day. Mine looks good enough after two years with a few dings that you would never notice from distance.
