Has anyone passed new CA ECU smog check with the Magnuson SC and TRD tune?

    Hi all,

Just got a Magnuson SC installed on my 2015 4.0 (MANUAL transmission).

I'm having issues getting the Bullydog tuner to download and install the correct tune from their servers (and they're currently closed, of course). My truck drives fine on the stock tune with no boost (I drove it home). It started out very rich but trimmed out -30% with the new injectors which matches the 455cc units vs OEM. O2 lambda shows normal activity when driving with no boost according to OBD Fusion monitoring software.

    1. Apparently BD is not the best tune (runs dangerously lean?) so I'm considering options and am wondering has the BD flash gotten any better since everyone was discussing them back in 2017 and before?

    2. Has anyone passed the new CA smog with the ECU checks, using the TRD flash and a Magnuson SC?

    Thanks for any input!

The TRD ECU calibration from Toyota is the only one approved in California. Yes, you will pass smog with it.

OK, cool Thanks - and I figure that's why the bullydog tune presents/installs the TRD calibration ID. I just looked at the Magnuson kit CARB EO exemption letter and it's explicitly listed as part of the exemption manifest/description so that must be their workaround for how they comply at the smog station for the ECU check.
