has anyone put an engine from a 2012+ Tacoma in a 2011- Tacoma?

    What else would I need? I'm assuming ECU for sure, will ECU direct plug in?

    Yeah. The 4Runner uses the same gauge cluster and lots of parts are interchangeable and the the front frame is basically the same. You'll also need the 4Runner engine mounts (they work on the Taco) and the ignition circuit because of the immobilizer. Possibly the fuel pump, I think it's pressure regulated by the ECU.
    That's the big ticket items. Once you got that done you're 99% back on the road
