I hate the fact that only the driver side handle allows you to just touch it to unlock, and the rest of the truck requires the fob. A lot of times I am carrying things and cant reach for the fob when I’m not at the drivers side. Has anyone done this? The problem that I see is you can’t order 3 more of the drivers side door handle because right side of truck is different than left side, these handles are asymmetrical so sides have to defined but then again not sure about wiring/harnesses for the other 3 doors on a double cab if even existent...likely needs just power somewhere from inside the door (I’m sure that’s not a problem) and some programming from the dealer? But since they don’t make them, I would think this may be a wishlist for following years to come...they have to have something more to add subtly each year, right. I’ll have to wait until they do and then do a swap out or retrofit...cmon Toyota what’s wrong with you! You pay for a Limited yet it’s very Limited if you get what I mean. Anyone have any thoughts, suggestions or ideas? Sorry if this has been covered before in which case a thread redirect or link would be nice!

Please explain this to me (I don't have this feature on my '16)......you just touch the drivers side handle and it unlocks??? Does that mean anyone can come up to the truck and touch the handle and it unlocks - doubtful, but please explain the procedure to me.

    THANKS!!!

What model of Toyotas or lexus has this feature to begin with?? Is that models door handles compatible with the tacoma. I am sure each model doesnt have unique door handles to each model. The company probably makes 3 to 5 styles at best. That's where I would start.

It works like you describe, but you must have the fob in your pocket (within 3ft or so of the door).

So, if the OP watches the above video, there is no need to swap out the handles??? Just program the fob as in the video??

    Seems simple enough.

Thanks for the video, by the way - good explanation!

Yeah, he was stating that he didn't want to go around the truck to use the one handle on the truck to open the doors (or put something down to reach into pocket and grab the fob...)

Small annoyance when I want to open the passenger door for my lady (like I have done in previous vehicles equipped with smart key technology). Just have to walk around the truck, unlock it with the drivers' handle, then walk back to the passenger side to open that door. Extra 16 steps to my day each time. ;)

Or save yourself the steps and press a button inside your pocket ;)

I too wish the passenger side door had this feature. All doors would be nice, but I'm used to both front doors having it, coming from a 3 series.

If I decide to open the door for her, I make her push the unlock button in my pocket..... It works for both of us and some times she takes a while finding the "right" button to push, but that's OK...!! :D

Yes as long as you have the fab thing with you and close to the truck.
No key needed. Touch the handle it opens, get inside push the button it starts.
