    Wasn't a member before I bought, I made a mistake!

Well, maybe. The "standard" function will probably make it OK. I tipped over a can of worms, lol.

Don't worry, just drive it hard for the first 1k miles and it'll sort itself out. The trans is supposed to learn your driving habits, now at 1,300 miles I find I can force a shift when I want it to and hold a gear when I want it to, just like any other auto I've had. It doesn't hunt as much as it used to, and I'm actually quite liking the trans now. Also remember with 6 gears it's going to shift a LOT more that your typical 3 or 4 gear auto. The complete mismatch of %accelerator pressed to %throttle open gave me more of a concern, but even that seems to have got better and I find myself using ECT less.
BTW, if it's just reading that's putting you off, stop reading this BS and go and bloody drive it, make your own mind up.

TY, and it's been fine offroad so far. I just haven't had it anywhere really steep yet. I've already put 2K miles on it, and love everything else about it. Thank you all for your responses.

The only complaint I have is this.... you drive over 70 a lot, you drink the fuel.

Nah, I just wanted to see if anyone else had done a switch. DI had a stick in Houston traffic for the last 4 years and it had gotten tiresome. Figured auto was the way to go.

So after owning the truck for over a month you haven't experienced any issues but you have been reading about other people's discontent and now you're ready to dump your truck?

I live and drive in elevation and mountains with no issues, in my auto. There are dozens of people on here that post responses every day about not having a problem w/ their auto.

You think you would still feel the way you do if you never read about other people's problems? When I got my truck 3 months ago I read the pages and pages of "issues" and it made me second guess everything when I drove my truck: "what is that noise..." "was that a funny shift?" etc etc.

I tuned it out and drove my truck, never had a problem and started getting better gas mileage after I stopped over analyzing every little detail. Honestly it sounds like you are ranting about negative circumstances that haven't even happened to you and that starts to discredit the few on here that have had legitimate problems.

I live in a hilly area as well, not as high as you though. But I agree, keeping it in gear via S3 or S4 fixes 90% of problems when going up a steep hill.

    Didn't @shakerhood do that exactly?

Edit: context trade an auto for a manual

Be sure and take pics in Alaska and come back and post them here. It would be good to get your impressions then.

Well, this is kind of my grail vehicle that I plan on keeping it for many many years, unlike my others. I have experienced the hunting of gears and started reading more, which lead to reading about people in the hills not happy. It is stemming from that, yes, because I don't have that experience in this truck, yet. I was worried, and people in this thread have made me feel a bit better about it. I don't wish to discredit anyone, not sure where that came from. Just wanted to see if anyone else had been down the path of switching because of these issues, I guess. Also, I can't turn off the radio or everything is a "what's that?" moment. I'm enjoying the truck besides the hunting, but then I just turn on ECT. I just didn't want to prep the truck fully over the next few years and regret it once I begin my bigger trips.

It's often noted on this and other forums to stop reading them because of X,Y,Z. And while that's true, here I am reading all of these horror stories of how bad these rolling piles of crap are. Truth be told, I love my truck, warts and all. It was the same old story back in 2012 when I bought my wife a Prius C, if you were to believe the forums the Prius C was the worst piece of crap ever built, 5 years later and it's been perfect in all respects averaging just over 50MPG and not a single maintenance issue. My 2 cents.

I'm not meaning to troll, I should change the 1st post to just say "Has anyone traded their AT to MT and why?" My bad, dudes. I'm not miserable, I'm worried for future stuff after reading people's experiences in places I haven't been. I just don't want to BE miserable later, since I have big plans for this thing in the coming years.
