Getting the MC flow right still won't prevent the positioning of the driver's side brake caliper from eating through your shocks on that TundraRacing.com kit.

Also, the parking brake will not hold the vehicle.

Since I don't know about the shock, I won't comment on that, but I am confused as to why you think the parking brake won't hold?

Because since the conversion using the TundraRacing.com kit, the parking brake cannot hold my truck. :p

Here's the result of a single afternoon of low speed offroading after installing the disc brake kit:
    IMG_0433_e9cc6fc90d342f91989c5e05735071ffeca89d09.jpg

Another 2-3 hours out there and the shock tube would have worn completely through.

Hmmm. I have seen those style calipers used on conversions and the parking brake worked fine on them. Not sure why yours didn't work. I am looking at the photo and can see where the caliper is making contact. Maybe a relocation bracket or something would work? Those are obviously not factory shocks, so my question would be, does the same contact take place with a factory shock? I am just being curious, not starting anything. I am truly curious if a bracket would help yours, or if a factory shock would make the same contact.

The shocks are bolt-on Walker Evans 2.0 shocks in the stock locations. The calipers are SSBC 2424 models, which are the single piston rear calipers off a 1987 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. I've gone through 4 of them in a very short amount of time as they keep seizing.

The parking brake grabs, but there's not enough clamping force to hold the truck on even the slightest grade. With the truck in neutral and the parking brake engaged as firmly as possible, 4 guys could push the thing around.

Different brackets would definitely keep the calipers out of the shocks, but then what's the point of buying a kit that comes complete with brackets? That kit is a poor design using outdated components.

If someone's gonna do the upgrade to rear discs, they need to do it right. Replace the master cylinder for proper flow, install a proportioning valve, and run discs that utilize internal drums for the parking brake.

The kits available for sale as complete solutions are worthless.

Have you looked into the 4Runners? My 2004 4Runner has them and they work great. They do have an issue with the front caliper pucks freezing up.

I was just making a comparison. The title ask has anyone tried f&r disc brakes. Maybe try driving a 4Runner and see if you like the braking differences. I know the 4r has coil springs and the Tacoma has leaf springs.

No one has pointed out that painting a drum red actually yields more colored surface to be shown through the wheel. So drums still look cooler unless you put brembo calipers on and claim you have a corvette truck.

2012... all cars all cars and trucks have four wheel disc. My ol s.u.v. 95 Montero has disc all around and coil rear springs. Seems, like a throwback drums and shoes, and rear buggy springs.Time, to get with the times Toyota.
