Has anyone tried to remove the shark fin from the 2012?

I'm trying to figure out if the shark fin is just a cover or the actual antenna. Any one know?

 

i always assumed it was the XM antenna?

 

im pretty sure its an actual antenna, i think i remember a thread on here where the older 2nd gens can get a dummy fin to look like a 2012

It's the actual antenna for xm satellite radio. A cable from the radio plugs into it. Several have removed the antenna, leaving behind holes in the roof. How they covered those holes vary. Here are a couple of related threads...

Well that sucks I was hoping for the antenna to be square like on the 09s.

well I just found out today cuz I ripped it off backing out of the garage cuz the garage door wasn't completely open.... dkxiekicmekxkaskdiskejckskc!!!!!

the entire thing is the antenna. there's 2 holes on the roof that you'd have to fill (one is about 1/8" the other is 1" square). to remove the shark fin you have to remove the ceiling liner which isn't too hard (remove the clothes hooks and handles above rear passenger doors) then carefully pull the ceiling liner back to access the nut that unscrews the fin.

 

Ahhh thank you. Anyone know if the 09 XM antenna would mount in the same place? I use XM while it's free don't know if I will after that though.
