Has anyone trimmed their mudflaps too short and regretted it, deleting altogether?

When I bought my '07 in April, it was obvious that the passenger front mudflap had been off for quite some time. Significant chips down to primer that I had to heal (didn't touch-up, might next spring.)

I don't plan on lifting the truck until it's paid off and turns itself into a weekend project. I'm kinda tired of hearing them when I exit ruts though, and I want to trim them down before just breaking one off.

How far down (or up, I guess) can I go while still getting a little benefit?

    Thanks very much.

Your products nail it, some of the first I bookmarked in my DREAM folder. That tailgate reinforcement is on my radar. If I put a snowy foot up on it will I slide out any worse than the factory? I live high up in the mountains and work outdoors during winter.

No not really, just have a textured coating on it and you should be fine. Maybe even order it bare and get it coated in LineX

Like Eric said, coat it with something that has some texture and you'll be fine. I use my Relentless step/sliders in the winter and don't have any issues with grip, even when wearing shoes with poor traction. I used rustoleum spray on bedliner to coat them.

I took 6" off the front flaps (OEM) on my '09, they were absurdly long--do not regret it one bit:

I took all flaps off of my truck with 200 miles on the ODO. I have a few rock chips on the rockers, but I knew that would happen with the removal... no ragrets whatsoever

The good news is, if you trim them too much you can always find them available here on TW for cheap as people outright remove them usually

If you are real worried about it you can always just hack off an inch at a time, see how it looks then if needed do another inch. Then last step, just clean it up and round out the edges to match factory look. I ended up taking about 2" off my fronts and like 3 off the rears. For some reason I like the longer in front, shorter in rear look.

Fronts are just too damn long...I had a doozy of a road dip on a route to take my wife to her office every morning and the flap would bottom out in it.

I have the OEM side steps, so took all of mine totally off and have zero chips in 10 years.

I trimmed mine and was not happy with how short they ended up. I put Husky liners on and they are about perfect in terms of length.

So annoying. Luckily few speed bumps where I live but the ones we have are aggressive.

Are they as rigid as the stock? I was thinking about rubber today when talking to a Jeeper at work.

Something to consider, since I'd like sliders eventually.

They are but the material doesn't seem to mind flexing. I've only dragged them once since I've had them on. 1.6" lift and 265/70R17 seems to help.

Cheers. Very good to know since when I lift this I only plan on a slight like yours. Do it with adjustable shocks and if in 4-5 years I think I need to Baja style the thing, I guess I will.

I edited my post above, was out in the barn this afternoon and found the pieces I had cut off (OK, I'm a packrat)--it was 6" I had cut off...

And they look good. Guess I'll have to find the Dremel plunge cut thing, whatever they call that tool.

St Augustine horse-country, like the center of your state?

No, but I tried to cut my own hair one time. Didn't go well.

No regrets here, glad I trimmed them. I went about even with the center of my wheel hubs.
