The noise my diff makes has evolved a bit in recent miles. It started howling at about 1500 miles, got louder then leveled off at about 12,000 miles, stayed pretty consistent to 20,000 miles but for the last 5000 miles or so it seems to have widened in the speed range that it occurs (used to be a very specific "sweet spot" at 52-56mph, more like 50-60mph now) and there seems to be a consistent underlying whirring noise like a faint "Jetsons car" noise that is not really induced by feathering the throttle just happens under normal acceleration in that speed range. Makes me curious about the pinion bearing.

mine does it between 55 - 60 upon acceleration and deceleration, that tells me we are getting wear now...

TRD OR problems.....again. That 8.75 inch rear diff has got to go... come on Toyota !

This is gonna kill them soon ! And it is much deserved, if they choose not to address the MULTITUDE of complaints with the OR and its faulty ass end.

Mine just started yesterday at 309 Miles, the speed range was very tight at 54-55mph. Hoping the volume does not go up nor the speed range widen.

I DO NOT have the howl as described in all the threads on my SR with the 8 inch diff.....Auto trans......

I have yet to hear of an SR Utility owner with the howl, with the 8 inch diff.

I am understanding the MT or AT does not matter.....I am more interested in what differential is in the trucks with it....

    8 inch
    Or
8.75 inch, I understand all manuals have this new rear end??

The OR Auto that l had for a 3 day test drive started howling at 54 Miles, so on the bright side mine went longer before it started and yes the Auto had the 8.75

That's because you have the puny little 8" diff. We have the mighty 8.75, it is howling like strong wolf

    So far...

The 8.75 diffs are the problem childs
The howl is attributed mostly the 8.75 diffs
The howl occurs no matter the design or nomenclature of the trans, either AT or MT
The ORs have the most problems, because they are the most sold model.
Changing gear fluid does absolutely nothing to curb the howl.
There is no TSB for any of the issues the owners are experiencing.
The dealerships and techs are telling owners this is a "normal" condition of the truck.
