Got to admit i dont see them often but the idea of a small block V8 is apealing for some. Any past forum info would be apreciated. Im not jumping on this anytime soon probably at all. But it cant hurt to get the facts straight..

There are a couple of past build threads on here with some decent info. I think there are 2 or 3 of us here (myself included) that are currently doing LS swaps in our tacomas. I have a build thread going and plan on giving some pretty good in-depth info once I really get going on the actual wiring and stuff

Don’t use the forum search it is garbage, google it and you will find a lot of links to threads on TW about it

Ive heard chatter that the biggest issue is getting the computer(s) or electronics to jive one to another. I wonder if its a complete removal of a toyota computer to a chevy computer or a adapter affair or both ???? I presume the rest is all mechanical dimension challenges. Hell with enough money you can do anything lol. Anyhow can you please send a link to your build thread thats very valuble info. I started to say with Dakota and Colorado use to offer a V8 why not Tacoma. But i guess that time has passed. Since everything is going Hybrid or Small displacement forced induction.

I guess it mostly depends on how much of the factory Toyota stuff you want to keep (stock gauges mostly). In my case, I’m doing a terminator x computer and harness, and decided I’m going to run their digital dash. The Toyota chassis harness is going to stay in place to control the rest of the stuff like lights, a/c, etc.

Wow. That is alot of work with a big lift and tires an all. Mine is a 2.7- 5 lug acces with the longer bed. What I had in mind was a stock LS 2 or 3 cast block aluminum heads 4 or 6 sp auto maybe a ford or chevy 8" posi rear upgraded suspension for the drivetrain weight diffrence. Mild cam A nice tune, long tubes Borla exhaust etc.street truck. Wishing is free lol.

Im one of those 3 doing an LS swap currently. My plan is the exact same as @allenfab 's. Holley terminator for everything motor and trans wise, then the oem ecu to control ac and lights and radio.

I got my motor in this past week now the truck is off to have suspension work done to it. here's my build thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ls6-swap-2nd-gen-build.779345/

Couple obstacles to overcome with non - toyota engine is the cluster uses a CANBUS signal from ecm for coolant temp.
As well the AC amplifier wants to see an engine RPM signal and Compressor speed Signal.

The temp signal isn't a CANBUS signal on 05-11 models but it is a PWM signal which changes frequency depending on engine temp, same signal is sent to the Combination Meter for temperature gauge control.
2012-15 models did send the Temp signal over the CANBUS to the Combination Meter and sent a PWM Temp signal to the A/C Amplifier.

Uh oh. I thought it was as simple as just plugging in the ac clutch wires to my GM compressor. Guess not...

@Speed Freek has put a turbo LS in his first gen. We are following his progress on the San Diego thread.

That’s what I am hoping for lol. Maybe I’m overthinking it. It’ll be a while before I even get near that stage of the build to figure it out
