Anyone know the status of the Mexico plant? Texas supposedly reopened yesterday, though full production has not started.

My brother works at the San Antonio plant and supplies parts from outside vendors to the production line. According to him the plant has restarted and working at approximately 10% of capacity right now. Plans are for the plant to ramp up production over a few weeks. From what he understands the Mexico plant is to follow suit (whatever that means or implies). According to what he has shared with me Toyota's plans have changed quite a few times over the last few weeks.

Not an answer to your question but I heard on the radio yesterday that Toyota plans to reduce production by 1/3 for most of the rest of this year.

Within two years all Tacoma trucks will be Hecho in Mexico...and we thought the Texas made has some issues...

I have to wonder if this will result in something similar to the TP crisis, not enough Tacos to go around?

I don't really think that mexico made or Texas made is gonna make any difference in all honesty.

There is quite a bit of inventory sitting on lots right now. With the current and forecasted economic climate, no sense in making a bunch of trucks.

Shoot. People are still buying Tacoma’s. They’re just buying them online. The dealership is delivering them to their driveway. other forums people are showing their new trucks all the time. This is going to change the way of buying vehicles. Heck, we’ll be buying them from Amazon

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
That's exactly how I got mine last month. Started things by asking for a quote from dealers, continued through email/phone and once I was happy with a price, I went down for a test drive. This potentially saved me a ton of time hopping between dealerships and trying to negotiate. Once all was in order, I was able to sign for (most) things electronically and sales guy came down to me in the truck then rode my trade-in back. It was one of the easiest buying experiences I've had since 80% was done from my house.

I actually did that (other than the signing) with a Highlander purchase in 2004.

Because I'm not fond of dealerships, and some were smart enough, even then, to have internet sales.

Nope. Maybe not every color / trim. But plenty to drive.

And there will be great buys on repo units.

If someone has ever considered a practical econo box for daily driving/lots 'o miles driving, now is the time to be shopping that. Gas is cheap, and folks with cash/jobs/income to buy aren't thinking future as much as 'good deal'.

When gas is back over $4, econco boxes will be hot, and there will be a glut of suddenly unneeded trucks and SUVs on the used market again.

The only Tacomas currently being made in San Antonio are Pros and Manual Transmission trucks - everything else is already made in Mexico.
