I am aware, however none of us are qualified to speak on the profit margins of Toyota vs aftermarket parts..

Thought there was a law or something automobile manufacturers have to supply spare parts for their vehicles for ‘x’ amount of time. Regardless of how much they ‘profit’ from it.

Don’t know what that duration is and don’t quote me on that.

Depends on what parts you're talking about.

OEM doesn't mean it's the highest possible quality, only "good enough" to keep costs in check.

But if you want to insist on paying $9 for a bolt from the dealer, be my guest.

OEM lower ball joints, as nice as they are (quality wise), are still a shit design. I would replace them with a uniball design (or even a conventional compression design) in a heartbeat if that didn't require replacing everything else with custom components that cost a couple grand.

Everyone will just have to buy them from the company that actually makes them (555), but for half the cost.

They've discontinued making reman OEM CV axles, can still find them at some dealerships but my local dealer informed me they weren't getting any more because Toyota stopped making them.

Somewhere a while back I read that Germay has a 10 year law, but the U.S. does not. However, laws change so who knows. I’ve seen parts on GM vehicles discontinued before 10 years. Mostly trim pieces.

Maybe Toyota will make another pickup worthy of being a 1st gen.

When did your last uniball go 200k never serviced. On my 02 the original Ball joint had 400k never replaced never failed. I’ve seconds gen with 250k on the original ball joint. I’d say getting 15 years on a ball joint never serviced pretty good.

1st, Uniballs aren't designed or intended to be maintenance free, so there's no point in comparing them in that way. They are, however, stronger and allow more articulation.

2nd, do some research on 1st gen lower balljoints. They are a completely different design from 2nd/3rd gens, and are a shit design because the ball/socket is always in tension which means it will fail catastrophically, vs. just getting loose.

400k is pretty good research imo.

You have 400k miles on 1st gen balljoints?!

    holly shit.

I suggest doing some research beyond just driving it around for WAY past its maintenance interval, and see what happens when first gen ball joints fail.

I’ve seen them fail, it’s not pretty. That truck is long gone. Silly dealer gave me 6k for it. I understand the design aspect of when it fails it fails big being shitty. It was a great truck.
