I agree. I don't understand that they actually looked at the truck before purchase. They should see if something is missing or not.

I think it is the young ones getting stars in their eyes at purchase.

Tomorrow I'm going to check and see if there's a wire stuffed up in the headliner for the mirror. It's still available on the Sport models, so maybe all the trucks are wired for it. If this is the case, Ebay here I come! I'll let you know what I find.

Please do, if you find a wire, and install a mirror, i'd be happy to add this to the first post.

Lol maybe. I'm 21 and when I got my truck I still scoured that bitch over left and right. I even took a double-take at the rear fender protective vinyl piece or whatever it is thinking it was some scratch across the fender before I looked closer to find it was that protective piece.

That'll be a feat since they stopped putting it in the overhead console and started putting it in the rear view mirror...when they did offer it of late...

Well, then wouldn't a dealer want to make a customer happy and offer to put in a couple hundred $$ mirror to make a $32,000 sale? Seems like a damn good idea to me. Removing features is simply a greed thing, trying to save several hundred dollars (per vehicle of course) by not hving those features and getting rid of the auto dim feature.

Pulled out the overhead console today, and this is what I found... It's got three wires going to it: red, green, white with a blue stripe. Power, ground, and temp signal?

Edit: after "building" a Tacoma Limited on Toyota's web site it appears that the mirror is auto dimming with temp display only. No integrated compass.

I believe some people with early production 13's still retained those 2 cubby holes (late runs of 12' beds) but eventually no 13 beds had them.

Some of this Some of that
I highly doubt everyone with an 'off road truck' has a compass in it

I think the wires are 12v Constant, 12v switched and ground. I believe it was confirmed in a separate thread. There is no temp source delivered to the headliner in any US spec Tacoma, not even the Limited has temp to the mirror, unless you got a Canadian spec truck, you don't have temp...

Glad I found this thread as this was one of my "new owner" questions. Next question, how do you remove the overhead console to get to that plug? I think I'm going to buy a used mirror with homelink, compass, and temp and install it in my 2014 trd sport. I installed one in my mustang, not a big deal as long as you can figure out the mirror wiring.

I have never had a compass on any vehicle i've owned. I never purchased a car that said it had on either. My question is - When OR'ding, is the compass very useful? Do people use these often? iris the outrage that they said there was - but there isn't? thats kinda jacked up but has anyone asked the dealer? what'd they say?

My tacoma doesn't have this stuff but I am moving to a bigger truck at some point anyways,
