The compass is nice when you are exploring. For example, you went into an off road park or a state park and you got lost but you know that you entered on the east side, the compass can help you find the general direction back.

The temperature is nice when traveling, you can adjust inside climate control as temperature changes out side (such as with elevation) and you can know whether or not to put a jacket on before getting out of the truck.

Maybe i made bad examples but it still doesn't explain why so many people seem to not give a shit about things that i consider toyota is "going backwards on." If they already have a nice feature, why remove it on the new models? Why make newer models worse than older models by removing features that were already there and that worked well.

I don't think it's "we don't give a shit". I think it is just not the most important thing in the world to get worked up over. As I said previously... There are multiple threads on this very subject. I have no idea why Toyota chose to delete these options but for whatever reason they did. I won't argue the fact that it would be nice if they didn't. But... Once again... if you bought the truck and didn't look at the sticker then.... well, you know.

I'm personally happy that I have those options on my truck but it certainly wouldn't be a deal breaker for me if they didn't. My 2011 didn't have a compass or temp but it did have the auto dimming mirror.

I suppose I just don't understand getting so worked up over something so small. I wish that was all I had to worry about in my life.

I went from an 06 AC to a 12 DC.

The Door pockets on the 12 got smaller and my water bottles don't fit right anymore.

I thought the old compass/temp was the first thing to fail.

That's one thing...... That shouldn't have anything to do why they removed/changed it.

POOR POOR quality solder joints on the circuit board. They should find another contractor whom does their circuit boards.

It could have been a purely financial vs customer demand decision. The temp/compass is a very common failure item so it obviously was costing Toyota a lot of "after the sale" warranty claim $$$. They might have searched for sources that would give higher reliablilty and couldn't find any or if they did maybe the new units were going to cost more than they were willing to add into the manufacturing cost.

So they might have elected to just drop it. It was probably a good assumption most folks going places that really needed compass assistance would take their own GPS and manual compass for such activities. There's not much true utility in a compass only accurate to the nearest 22.5 degrees anyway.

I think it is cool on my 2007 but I wouldn't have even bothered to fix it if I hadn't discovered the cheap easy solder fix found in other threads. Useful when I make a turn and the signs read "GA 55 West" and the compass is not reading East, I figure no pranksters switched the signs, so I am on the right road.

My 2014 Off Road does not have the compass/temp gauge in the mirror either. The dealer, Findlay Toyota in Henderson, NV, will do nothing either.

Nor should they if it isn't listed as a option on your vehicle. If you test drove the truck, looked it over, looked at the sticker on the window, and still bought the truck then it is not the dealer's fault simple as that.

If it is listed as a option on the sticker then yes... the dealer should cover it and they will have no choice but to do so.

The great mirror catastrophe of 2014:rolleyes:

x2 always look over what your investing in. i sure as hell did when i bought a used 2010 camry se couple months ago. rear bumper wasnt lined up and the tint in the car was darker on one side so i made them fix that before i bought the car. salesman even threw in the "its a used car its not going to be perfect" to which i replied "the camry has been the #1 selling car for over a decade and if im going to buy this car this is going to need to be fixed". they fixed it and i got 2 free tanks of gas and lowered the price when we were doing the finances :D

That was my complaint when I bought my 2013 Limited. There is no oil pressure gauge (which used to come on all of the Tacomas until the late '90s early '00s) among other missing features. I thought getting a Limited that it would be loaded, but it is missing TONS of features that my '08 Tundra SR5 had. Toyota is definitely cutting out a lot of features to save money.

To follow up on my original post, the dealer did get him a mirror with compass and temp, and installed it free of charge.

    You can check(because i'm not 100% sure).

Its one screw and a few clips. You may even be able to see it with out taking the over head out.

The harness being there may not mean that you have the temp sensor. The temp sensor should be on the center radiator support

From my overview of the first post, someone from a newer taco does have it? That's promising. I'm pissed my 2014 doesn't have it.

I don't know what all they had to wire in. If the harness is there, then all they have to do is run a temp sensor across the headliner, down the A pilar, through the firewall and over the fender to the grill. If the harness isn't there....in have no idea how involved it might be.
