I have less than 3/4 of an acre and have been paying a landscaper for the past 4 years to maintain it because i used to travel so much but lately not so much. I don’t know, I’m thinking the Zero is too much for me. The X included the extended warranty, delivery, taxes, ...

I was thinking Lowe’s because the also offer 50% rebates on preventative maintenance items on top. But I thought they were the same exact product as the Deere? So let’s say E100, that’s not the same at the dealer as it is at Lowe’s from a build perspective? Thanks for the feedback!

Some people have these insane conspiracy theories that John Deere makes their product shit just because its sold at Lowes or Home Depot.

No, what you get is what you pay for. Your local John Deere delivers and warranties any deere you buy from Home Depot or Lowes, it doesn't matter.

They have a bad reputation because people buy the lowest end model at Lowes and then wonder why it broke in two years trying to mow 5 acres of hills. The weak link on these is the hydrostatic transmission and you need to buy one to suit your property

Check out SLE equipment in Nashville, TN. They do not charge tax for out of state purchase, and they deliver all over. I bought and Husqvarna MZT-52 from them for $4,500 + 350 in shipping. Shipping was = to tax in my state so that was a wash, and they sold the mower for 1k less than I could have got it for around here. MSRP was around 6k at the time. Ordered it and a trailer from them. loaded the new mower on the new trailer and had it from Nashville to my house the same day.

Love the MZT line too. Lifetime deck warranty, 3400 hydros (also found on $8k + mowers), super easy to work on and accessories are cheap. A powered bagger is like 899 compared to 2-3k if you had an eXmark mower. If the MZT is a little rich for your blood, there is the MZ line. Not quite as good hydros/engine choices, but 1k cheaper and would likely last forever in residential use.

That was my belief as well, but I couldn’t find the X350/42” at Lowe’s, which would have been much closer to me than the dealer. But who cares, with the extended warranty they both will pickup and deliver for repairs.
I agree about low end products at the box stores; when you buy a brand like a JD you’re not buying crap, unless you chose the low end models, which are also found at the dealer anyway but the repairs on those cost them with the warranties.
The X350 is still my favorites, I’ll end up getting it from the dealer.

My John Deere that I bought from Home Depot 14 years ago is running strong with minimal maintenance, makes quick work of our 1/2 acre.

They only sell the E series at Lowes and Home Depot. The X is dealer exclusive. Its a great choice. I think though that the S240 would also suit your needs for a little less money, if you go that route. Its also a dealer exclusive. Definitely take a look at both and ask yourself what your real needs are. They both have K46 transmission so at the end of the day evaluate if the extras on the X model are worth the premium.

That is not true - Most brands make specific models for big box stores - look it up. They may last a while, but they are NOT the same exact thing. They do NOT offer the X models at box store, unless this has changed in the last 2 years

I never said that did. The X and most of their models are exclusive to dealers.

What I did say is that the local Deere dealer delivers all mowers you buy from Lowes and Home Depot. And your local Deere would warranty and do the service on your mower. The box stores have nothing to do with the purchase once you exchange cash (unless you buy a floor model)

Deere does make models for just Home Depot and Lowes - but people think "Oh, they make them shitty on purpose because its lowes". Thats just not true. They make a perfectly good mower for the price you pay. The failing is on the customer buying an inappropriate model.

Exactly - they make them to a certain price point, which is typically cheaper, and will not hold up as well is a similar more expensive model from a JD dealer. This is exactly what I am saying. May be okay for the price, but is not as good nor has the same parts because they need to get to a price point.

Like any equipment, buy to your needs. But like with most things people buy the cheapest product they can find and complain that they dont make things the way they used to.

When I bought my X320 in 2014, one of the key differences between the D-series mowers sold at Lowe's and Home Depot was that the D-series had Briggs and Stratton engines vs the Kawasaki engines in the X-series. I don't know if this is still the case, but my research led me to the conclusion that the X-series mowers were much more reliable. I've put about 250 hours on it in the past 4.5 years, and my only regret is that I bought the 48" deck instead of the 54".

I knew the zero was too much for me and bought it anyway. Now I cut my whole yard in 20 minutes. :woot:

Got a Kubota, 4 year warranty and they finance at 0% for 5 years so I threw a trailer in with it. Financing it also includes the protection plan from Kubota. They cover the mower and the trailer if it gets hit on the road and damaged, if it gets stolen, lightning hits it, tree falls on it etc.
