I haul steel home on this setup about once a month. Works perfect, ive hauled up to 24' sticks of angle iron. Just bolted to the bed stiffener

It would if I was working full time, retired now. I had a 18 ft trailer I used with my 2009 Tacoma in the past. Now I might need to haul stuff a couple of times a year. Thought of a rack but my garage low ceiling & shelving would require its removal for parking unless it was very low. There was 1 rack I found when I bought truck that would work with the Backflip MX4 cover but it seemed to disappear.
This is a cheap solution to a temporary issue.
I do miss my 6 ft bed on my 09 access cab.

I don't have any issues with anything 12" or less in my 5' bed. Just strap it down and you won't have any problems. I've never found anything where another 1" would make any difference. If it won't fit in my bed I do have one of those bed extenders but even then wouldn't want to go over 16'.

If I regularly hauled anything long the overhead racks are the way to go.
