Hauling sportbike in LB, tailgate strong enough?

I'll always jump at the chance to talk up my Relentless Fab reinforcement. I'm sure there are other good options but I can't imagine one being better than this. 10/10 looks great and offers outstanding protection. I placed the factory plastic cover over it after taking the picture below

 

I didn't read the relentless thread just clicked on their commercial site.. Glad to hear I made a good choice, now to wait for it to arrive.

 

I haul bikes all the time (from cruisers to sportbikes). The Mobtown tailgate skin is fantastic!

 

Witch option did you go with? the aluminum or steel?

I tried. Tailgate wouldn't close and I was fighting sunlight between installing that and the core/hurst short throw shifter at the same time after work. It's in the garage as a project for another day to see why it wouldn't fit without modifications.

A plus for us is mobtown is in MD so it should be at your doorstep pretty quickly.

 

Shipped out today will be here tomorrow! How come it wouldn't close? was it the 3 plastic tabs which need to be dremeled out?

 

hey dude, check out my post below on my tailgate. the crack in my tailgate was there from a previous owner. Loading my ZX6R make the crack extend and the tailgate actually buckled on me (almost crapped myself at the dealer). I welded her up and put that kbvoodoo steel cap on. one day later, my bud's harley wouldn't start and i loaded it on the bed. The tailgate take the load like a champ.

I'm not saying the stock tailgate can't handle your bike; but after a couple 30 upload/downloads of a sportbike, i'll bet you'll develop some cracking.

note i just installed the CAP, not the whole plate system and the tailgate handled a 600 lb harley with ease.

 

Wow that's crazy! What kind of ramp were you using when that happened?

 

one of those 6' steel ramps you get from harbor freight. right up the middle of the truck, while i'm walking up a second ramp on the edge of the gate.

hmmm...I see a bunch of earlier 2nd gen tacos with bent/warped tg, I read somewhere that tg were strengthened in the newer 2nd gens..
In any case, I got my black widow ramp, tomorrow I should have my mobtown skin and then ill be golden

well my taco is an 06 (second year of the 2nd gen), so i guess it would fall into that early category. But i'd never heard of later models getting strengthened. I sure hope they did!

Just snip those tabs of the plastic stock tailgate cover and the steel one will slide right under it.
