Can't stop myself from laughing at this thread and how far off topic it got... but it's so entertaining!!

Anyways, for OP's reference, I have had both the General Grabber AT2's and Goodyear Duratrac's so hopefully I can add my thoughts. The General Grabber AT2's I'd buy again, though (disclaimer) I am not a heavy off roader by any means. I typically like to go up in the mountains (rocks, snow, dirt) to go camping or adventuring around, but also know that I don't have a built rig and I understand my limits. Therefore, Grabber AT2's worked great as a primary D.D./ weekend adventure tire. I got roughly 50k out of them before I sold them with 6/32's tread left.

As for the Duratracs, I've only had them for about six months and they fit my needs, especially bc they are decent in the snow. One thing I immediately noticed, and it really bothered me, was how thin the sidewalls are. I can practically feel the truck rocking side to side if I jump up on the bumper or if I am loading shit in the bed. Again, I'm no rock crawler or serious off roader, therefore, I'm ok with it. I'll admit that I got sold on the Duratrac fad by the amount of good reviews that I found here on TW, though if I could do it again I'd go either Toyo AT2's or stepped up to the Goodyear Wrangler MTR's (they were only another $180 more for the set).

Hope this helps! Oh, and on a side note, when people like Box Rocket and Madjik_Man chime in, I really appreciate and take their advice seriously, given they have a ton of experience. Good luck!

I run duratracs for the reason that they work ok for all of my uses. I run one tire year- round and 6 months of the year there is snow and ice on the road. They do great for that. I also take the truck off road occasionally. They do ok for that. I also drive on the highway a lot, and they do ok for that too.

I will say that I have had shitty luck with getting good quality duratracs. I have had 3/4 of the original tires i purchased replaced under the manufacturer warranty due to being out of specs. Truck was still shaking so I got it road forced... Two tires are still bad and un-balanceable. For a grand total of 5 bad tires....

If there is a new tire out that is great in show and ok at a lot of other things, then I will switch to that when it is time for new tires again....

Another reason the Duratracs are crappy IMO. It's not the first time I've heard of issues like this.

Chipnoreo, you might look at the Interco Trxus. It's a bit more aggressive and might not be quite as good of a road tire but it's still decent. It's a good winter tire and a good offroader.

So much is happening in this thread I don't even know where to start, "Welcome to TacomaWord" Right??

Anyway I like the look of those Nittos, Are they a heavy tire? Weak little 4cylinder of mine doesn't need much more weight !

I don't have exact numbers but I'd be shocked if their as heavy as the Grabbers you were thinking of using

You could always go narrower. Should save a little bit of weight and increase snow performance...just going off what I've heard.

Just to specify, are we talking Grabber (red letter) or Grabber AT2 (OWL)?

Hey 2stroketrush , I just went from 265/70r17 duratracs to 285/75r16 general red letters . The duratracs are great but I did like the grabbers better . A little louder than the dt's but they look so good lol. The grabbers are about 10 pounds heavier than a 285/75r16 duratrac though .

As previously mentioned the hankook mts are pretty nice all around tires. I have 15k on mine and still look great! Handled everything I've thrown at them well and are very streetable. They were great this last winter with the exception of ice which they sucked on but they handled everything else admirably.

I have a set of 4 on the back deck waiting to be mounted. Reading your post makes me nervous for future problems...

Reason I bought mine was because of the good reviews while driving in snow.
