After a 5 month battle with Toyota regarding the fact that the air bags should not have deployed, they finally told me that they functioned how they were designed to. Had to go through insurance and they deemed the vehicle totaled.

I was headed down a gravel country road and hit a washed out area. The front driver side suspension bottomed out and the skid plate hit the ground setting off ALL the air bags in the truck. Thankfully I was able to maintain control of the vehicle and no one was hurt. The front fender was pushed back from the tire; the only cosmetic damage to the truck.

    Just a final tribute.

The truck is a 2015 with the 2.7L and 5 speed manual. It has 39,000 miles on it.

So let me get this straight, when your airbags go, your truck is totalled? Even when there is just minor body damage...doesnt make much sense...

Cost to replace the airbags exceeded the value of the truck. That is if the truck was sold before the incident occurred.

    A thing or two...
Pretty much. Airbags cost too much to to replace, so it's cheaper to total it out and write you a check.

You must have really bottomed out hard to trip the sensors for the airbags

That sucks to hear. What is your plan going forward? Another Tacoma? I'd suggest an FZJ80... I may be biased though...

Unfortunately one of the headlight mounting tabs broke from the impact.

I definitely want another Taco. I'm just not sure if I want to get a 3rd gen or get another 2nd gen.

I think technically airbags are a secondary safety feature, so as long as I have seat belts. I want airbags though
